The Mechanism
Talybont, Powys, UK
Like an old industrial relic, like broken machinery abandoned for many years and now subjected to a changed, and ever changing relationship with the flow of the river.
Whenever I pass this way there's always an expectation, a tingling thrill of not knowing whether these poles will still be lodged here. A knowing, perhaps, that one day they will be gone, dislodged by natural or unnatural forces, and the landscape will revert, from underworld utopia, back to a simpler nature of stream and waterfall and gorge.
Meantime, I can never resist getting my feet wet.

Hello Colin,
An intriguing photo that topok me some time to absorb.
A simple fine compositin with good play of contrasts and the milky water flows rendered so well to create a mysterious effect.

Paul

Hi Colin.
The vertical view and the composition are good and I love the long exposure of this photo.
Well done.

Ciao Colin!
Magnifica composizione! Come al tuo solito un'immaggine molto ben curata, bellissimo il gioco creato dall'acqua in cascata e bellissimi i riflessi sulla roccia bagnata! La natura spesso crea le migliori opere d'arte!
Saluti, Nino.

Hi Colin,
Great capture showing the flow of water - I like that you can almost tell the path of individual water droplets here. The two sticks are posed curiously in the waterfall - sometimes when this happens and I am at a waterfall I find it annoying, but you have instead turned the situation into a great photo!
Cheers,
Jordan

Looks like some alien bones :-)
I like the contrast between the dark, glistening rock and wood and the the white water.

Hello Colin! A quick hello from Grand Junction/CO ... TE is 'permitted' because it has very dark clouds outside which seems unusual for this time of the year. Cat sitting is fantastic to say the least, they live off the beaten track, have their own little canyon, cactus in full bloom all over the place, and an outside whirlpool :))) I want to stay ... LOL. Wow, Colin, this is a great picture, love the dark mood you gave with the wide black frame but also with your title, and then again, the misty touch you have added, making a wonderful contrast to the situation. Maybe it is still there, maybe it is gone meanwhile taken to some other place, the circle of things, very nicely written down. Greetings from Colorado, Barbara.
PS. Yes, this is going to be great seeing you ... we have a waterfall where we have the cottage but it depends on the rain and snow melting how big it is and sometimes it is even dry ... We will see.

Hello Colin, what a strange atmosphere here. Somehow mysterious. The sprays, blurred due to the long shutter speed, contribute to create a special picture.
Then the black log is like a monolith.
A very good result

Hi Colin, I love long shutter speeds and you have excelled here. The atmosphere is superb and you have created something mysterious partly out of nature and partly out of man's ingenuity. The silken effect on the water is enviable and something to emulate and learn from. TFS, Lisa

Pretty stunning image Colin. What really sticks out to me here is just the wetness of that log in front of us, theres that real humid and damp feeling being presented to us, also like the fog appearance of the water spray.

Hi Colin,
Beautiful mood you've attained in this capture, quite dark and mysterious. I love the shiny black log in the foreground, it looks fantastic. Good pick on the shutter speed, the water also looks marvelous. Now that I've been looking at this for sometime I can't help but get the impression the rock on the right of frame looks like a dark and foreboding face, creepy, I better get myself another drink.
Regards

Hello Colin,
It is a pleasure to discover your gallery. There are a lot of interesting things. Let's start with this one.
Almost monochrom, long shutter speed to have a milky rendering on the water and a lightning and contrast well managed.
At the end, an attractive shot sharing a vision. Not so easy to succeed.
Yves.
