Photographer’s Note

This again was taken at the Dingle ( a local woodland )in Llangefni, Anglesey. This old railway line used to run from Gaerwen in central Anglesey to Amlwch in North Anglesey. It was closed down by Dr. Beeching in the late 1960s. It was used after that to transport chemicals from the Associated Octel Co. Works in Amlwch
to the Oil Refineries in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The
works were involved in the production of bromine from sea water which was used to manufacture anti-knock products used in fuel for the motor industry. They ceased to use the line in the 1980s and reverted to road transport. The line has now been left to deteriorate but a new company the Isle of Anglesey Railway Co. are in negotiations with British Rail with a view of leasing the line for running steam trains as a tourist attraction.Apparently they have already got the trains to be used and it is now only the cost of upgrading the line which is holding them back.
