Low tide means that the boats in Cemaes Bay harbour become beached. I just loved how this boat, the Hydra, stayed perfectly upright on its keel; in this way, its reflection became more separated from the boat.
A true balancing act!
Have a lovely day, Bev :-)

une composition agréable avec un bateau qui semble en suspension au dessus de l'eau. De jolis reflets et une belle lumière.

Hello Beverley ,
Interesting subject is this red boat with so many white buoys to protect it ! That provides a fine graphical effect especially with the reflections .

quelle vue et image superbe comme il tient sur le sable et le reflet sur le plan d'eau merveilleuse et très intéressante vue de ces voilier à cale à marrée basse.
Bravo et amitié

Wonderful picture of the cute looking boat and its reflection. The photo qualities are excellent as always with the background providing context to the image. Very well observed and presented.
Thanks for sharing and have a great new day.

As soon as I saw this, I thought it was an optical illusion with that boat balancing just on its keel! But then I think I managed to work it out - it has, I think, twin rudders - have a look here - and I guess that's how it's able to "stand up" almost on three legs. But if that old salt, Will, sees this, he'll surely be able to advise a lot more knowledgeably than me!
A lovely photograph with lovely light and fine fresh colours with the boat and its reflections making a fine foreground against the backdrop of the land and the houses of Cemaes. Now I'm just wondering where, in relation to this spot, I stayed with my Dad's two maiden aunts sixty years ago. I really must go back and visit Cemaes!

It is rather strange how it manages to keep bolt upright. I like the composition and the choice of the vertical format. Pleasing warm light and some lovely reflections, complemented by good colours and sharpness.

It's a wonderful pic, full of very interesting strong colors and details. It's great to see how the reflection transforms it. I love the depth which creates the pov. Well done!
Have a nice evening,

this could be a scene from my home town, where the sea leaves the river boats high and dry every day. This boat is perhaps a tad better maintained than some on my river and it certainly looks cool sitting in its own little puddle. Perfectly composed and presented shot.
Regards - B.

A reply on your question to my picture, no I use not a monopod or tripod, or a pilar, everything out of the hand.
These boat is not fixed is a risk for fall.
Nice reflections and lovely background too.
Sharpness and clarity are perfectly, with excellent colours together.
Depth and perspective are pleasant to look at.
Very well composition, nice presentation.
Nice done, TFS.
Have a nice day,

the name of the boat has a very beautiful island of Greece.I suggest that the beautiful sailing boat has as owner a Greek one.Excellent presentation with the created reflections to make the scene even more effective.

C'est à se demander comment elle tient sur sa quille seulement pour garder son équilibre. J'aime bien le nom de ce petit voilier et j'aime aussi l'arrière plan de belles maisons sur la côte.

I saw John's comments and I suppose he has the correct explanation for this amazingly well balanced boat. (Sometimes truth takes the fun out of the imagination.) No need for the owner to keep everything onboard perfectly stored according to strict rules :-). The reflections are superb anyway, and the background view of the village on the hill isn't bad either.

Interesting low tide scene with the Hydra balanced on its keel and tiller, and the Cemaes Bay houses proudly lined along the waterfront hillside.
I wonder if all the protective cushions are used to protect the Hydra if it falls on its side?
Thanks for sharing,

Good evening Beverly,
Nice Hydra-boat reflection, even as it stood on low tide, yet enough water to show a nice mirror.
Light and clear details with charming colors, culminate beautifully.
SnapRJW (29604) 2014-08-19 7:42
The bright white contrasts add such life to this shot Bev and with the crisp reflection of the Hydra in the pool of water we can enjoy the rhythm of the floats twice... they make a great feature here. Good light and a finely composed shot together with rich colours make this a winner for me.

A good low tide photo with a good refection of the boat.
adramad (35855) 2014-08-19 8:53
A magnificent composition that conveys all the charm and tranquility of this beautiful corner, perfect the effect of the boat in the foreground, with its beautiful reflections in the water, green hill and the houses above is a perfect complement.
An image to enjoy with its beautiful color, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Very well done.
Have a happy day.
My warm regards.

Excellent title, it really looks like nothing would keep that in upright position. Vertical framing fits well and reflections on the water look nice. Good contrasty sidelight.
gildasjan (41154) 2014-08-19 10:08
Très bon cadrage de ce voilier avec une bonne restitution du reflet de sa coque.La lumière est bonne et les teintes du ciel et leurs reflets dans l'eau enrichissent cette composition verticale.

Let me add my compliments into your tip box! ;)
I love this scene, yes, this boat is just a main hero of this picture, but I also like this background with a lot of interesting details. Fine DoF.
All the best wishes,

That sure is a smooth balancing act alright, almost looks unreal...and aptly named for good measure. :) I'm sure a lot of people would see this and think it was something eye-catching, but a good photographer will always take it to the next level and be able to present it with much more intrigue and attractive qualities...and you've done just that!
Balanced on many levels, this is a very pleasing result and smart composition. Low tide has created the opportunity, and you took full advantage. Guess it will be a while before it's time to set sail though!? :) Have a great day. All the best.
trevormoffiet (2700) 2014-08-20 1:32
A nicely 'balanced' composition. It certainly invites interest in how the balancing act is achieved. Well done.
When I was in the UK I loved walking in the mud of the harbours at low tide to get photos like this.
williewhistler (12857) 2014-08-20 3:50
the upright format works very well in allowing us to view not only the nicely formed reflection but also the BG environment.
If you get any where near PL16 whilst in this part of the world you`re welcome to get in touch if time allows.
Kind regards Les.
macjake (53342) 2014-08-20 7:47
ah yes, dry dock or low tide boats, doesn't get any better than this.
this little beauty gave you the opportunity to capture a sweet water reflection in what little water was left.
love that maroon purple type of color too, its one that we don't get to see very often isn't it!
and the white is the perfect contrast for it too.
very pleasing shot, i'd be walking around with my camera too!
willperrett (6284) 2014-08-20 11:48
Not such a surprise that the boat is upright. It's a bilge keeler, which means it has two short stubby keels parallel to each other. Boat design like this is expressly to avoid deep draught, so sailing in shallower waters is possible, and to allow boats to dry out without falling over. But the downside is performance: they don't sail anywhere near as well as fin-keeled boats. And one wonders why the need for so many fenders. The owner must be paranoid! Nice shot by the way!
PiotrF (5276) 2014-08-21 12:17
unrealistic view of the boats, I like the reflection in the water and vertical frame. The light is perfectly managed and the sharpness is excellent.
Very well done.

Another perfect capture in your gallery with very good layout. Amazing reflections.

A beautiful scene of low tide that gave you beautiful reflections of the boat in balance. Well done!
Have a nice Week-end.

Hello Bev, The tides are always fascinating for me, we have no tides in Balticum. I was once in Thailand, we had great swimming on the beach in the evening. Rhen the next morning we went to bathe and... the sea was gone :). Wonderful composition with this nice boat and its reflections. Amazing how it balances.

I hope a very high tide comes to free this beautiful boat. That's one thing I truly miss about living in the desert--sailing. I used to sail a lot when I live in San Diego. The vertical format worked well with the composition. Good lighting and sharp details. Well done, tfs.
asajernigan (20770) 2014-08-25 14:38
This is a nice shot of this high and dry boat. The reflection of the boat in the shallow water adds depth and balance for the shot. The lighting and colors are fine and the photo has great sharpness.
adores (34740) 2014-08-26 16:24
very good composition! Even without much water you got a very beautiful reflection. Great light also!
Angshu (55003) 2014-08-26 22:40
Indeed the reflection in the shallow water is perfectly separated from the main boat itself. The vertical framing was necvessary to accomodate the mast. I liked also the houses in the BG. The light appears to be quite delicious!
swapankumarroy (1442) 2014-08-27 8:17
Very beautifully shoot the red colored boat "Hydra" and its reflection, very clear reflection, good contrast and well sharped image.
MOST IMPRESSIVE WORK,
warm regards and thanks,

Thank You for comments on my photography.
Lovely picture on this boat complimented with houses line in the BG and pure and beautiful reflections of the boat in the water.
