[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Caerphilly Castle - the largest castle in Wales at night.
After looking around the castle during the day, I drove to back from Cardiff to Caerphilly in the evening (around 9PM). I expected to see the castle nicely lit at night, like most famous buildings in other places. But instead it was completely dark. I had to use longest possible exposure.

Camera settings: manual mode, ISO400, lens zoomed to 22 mm, mirror lockup and self timer. I would prefer lower ISO and longer exposure (maybe 60-90 seconds), but 30 sec is the longest exposure I can get without remote release device.
Converted from raw with color temperature set to 6350K.

Daytime view for almost the same point is available here

Hi Linas,
This one looks simple yet very much beautiful.Love the calm and relaxed atmosphere, very pleasing to see.The old architecture is a nice silhoutte and the reflection is captured well.Wonder about the pinkish tone in the colour though.
Greetings from India,
Dhurjati

Marvelous reflection, well captured.

Amazing that it could give such results with this long exposure,
nice done
/Stefan

Hi Linas
the two photos are very good (WS), but I think this is the best cause the incredible light you got at this time of the day...
the result is mystical and beautiful...

Hello, Linas.

What a wonderful shot. I don't think it has suffered at all by being taken at ISO 400. The colours are superb and I love those beautiful reflections on the water.

Thank you also for giving us so much detail about how you took this picture - I find that sort of information very interesting and useful.

Kind Regards,

John.

Hola Linas. Una gran foto, me encanta la técnica que has utilizado, porque logra una imagen muy nítida y con unos colores geniales. El uso de los reflejos es genial, para lograr una composición genial como esta. Buen trabajo.

Un saludo, Yeray.

Hi Linas,
Beautiful colours and reflections in this shot of a fascinating subject. Very still, calm, tranquil, excellent work, TFS
Kind Regards
Steve

Labas Linas,

Good sharpness on the castle! Stands out of the photo. You did well using that longer exposure, adds a nice effect to the colours!

Natalia

Hi Linas,
It's hard to believe that it is night (well, at 9pm at that latitude and time of year, I guess you still have some light), but the long exposures have these things when they go well, as this is certainly the case.
It is a gorgeous view, very well composed and of course the colours make it even more appealing. Amazing sharpness also.
Congratulations, TFS.
Regards, José.

Woooh it looks great, it looks majestic, the reflections are superb, are very impressive, the lightness too.
Cheers
Evan

Hello Linus,
You have displayed a meticulous effort to bring us this perfect image. Reflection and soft colors are a treat to the eye. Excellent sharpness and non-symmetrical composition. Really good work! Regards,
Hakan

Lovely detailed image with good reflections.

that's cool, very good image for night shot! and the 400iso didn't noise the quality.. diana!

I agree with you, longer exposure would be even better, but it is still a very good shot (and PP).
Adrian

Very beautiful photo. I really like the colours and the image of the castle on the water. Good shot !
