Photographer’s Note
The Carse of Gowrie is that fertile alluvial plain which lies on the north side of the River Tay between Perth in the west and Dundee in the east whereafter the Tay discharges into the North Sea.
This picture was taken in early afternoon at the beginning of November, looking north and slightly west. The low hills in the distance gradually rise (out of the picture) to the right to the low peak of Dunsinane Hill, made famous in Shakespeare's play "Macbeth" as the site of Macbeth's castle.
Shot in RAW using a polarising filter and converted and edited in PSE6.

Hello John,
Some fine autumnal colours and a lovely sky here. There is a good sense of perspective, as the eye is led into the picture, and on towards those low hills in the background.
Obeying the rule of thirds, the line of the far side of the field lies exactly on a horizontal line of thirds, and that tree lies exactly on a vertical line, and over the upper left "powerpoint".
But somehow, compared with that marvellous last posting of yours, this composition doesn't quite hit the button for me.
It took me some time to work out why this is.
I think that the reason is, that although that tree occupies the desired prime position [according to the thirds rule], it has to compete for attention with the trees either side of it, and being a bit puny in comparison with them it loses some of the power its position should give it.
I'm sorry to be a bit negative!
An illustrative diagram in the WS.
Kind regards,
Peter.
