Another familar view of the Cuillins as seen from Elgol beach. You can see that large round boulder in the foreground which features on the cover of First Light: by Joe Cornish, one of Britain’s most distinguished landscape photographers. This was shot around 7-8am in the morning and because I had been on the go from 3.30am I was really tired by this stage.

Full composition in WS.

Hello Stephen

It's been some time since I left a comment under your photo but here I am again :)

---

One of the Scotland's most photographed places :)
But that's just Elgol
Amazing place, full of amazing rocks, textures and patterns.

Your composition is not at all unique, but that's fine by me.
I could look at them all not getting bored at all :)

Talking about the technical side I must say there is something that doesn't work for me. I've noticed that in quite a few photos of yours. I am not sure if it's beacause of saturation & contrast boost but the final result looks a bit artificial and "digital", I dare to say.

If you compare this scene to (for example) Joe Cornish rendition you'll see the difference in tonal transitions. I know it's not fair to compare 400D to large format camera but you probably know what I mean.

I would probably start with limiting some saturation on the water surface (which looks too aggressive and unreal to my taste).

Beside that - lovely shot :)

Cheers, Piotr
