Photographer’s Note
This wild looking face has been carved into the trunk of a tree. Many trees were felled or badly damaged by storms a couple of years ago and an enterprising local artist has created a number of these sculptures, this being the largest. All of these scultures are situated in the Castle Grounds in Stornoway and they are all unmarked - they appear unannounced as you wonder through the woodland walks.

Love the angle this has been taken at as it maximises the highlights and shadows in the wood carvings! I also like the fact that you have included some of the surrounding greenery, it makes a nice contrast in that although the main subject is 'dead' there is still new life growing around the old.
