When I was last here, in January 2013, I posted this picture of Stronachlachar Lodge which, at that time, was being sold for offers over £400,000. I don't know for how much this splendid place was eventually sold, but it certainly has been sold and, if you're interested, you can now rent it for a week at a time while you explore the beautiful Trossachs of Scotland. You can read about the Lodge and book your holiday here!
I took this picture, like the other one, from the pier at Stronachlachar which lies at the western end of Loch Katrine. You can see the location if you click on Map:view. This time, however, it was quite windy and the water of the loch was quite rough - unlike the last time when the loch was glassy smooth.
You can see a larger version on "beta" TE here.

400 000 pounds for this, that should be equivalent to a two room apartment in London, or maybe a bedroom and a kitchenette? And that wouldn't face a lake. A nice place, no doubt, and the bright buoys lead the way across the water towards the house. A very different atmosphere from the last picture, but every season has its charm, and the bright light and strong contrasts give the hills, the woods and the grassy slope down to the lake a bit of a 3D character.

Having seen this lovely building before, and feeling a sense of sadness at its demise, I am so pleased to read of its good fortune! Who wouldn't want to live in a house like this, with THE most fantastic views!
Those buoys, small as they are, make colourful and very effective leads to edge of the loch, where the there is a transference from shade to sunlight as we move past the trees to the focal house, almost in a spotlight. It is a glorious view, fine details, contrasting textures and, with the surrounding hills acting like a protector, keeping everything cosily contained.
Have a great Sunday,

£ 4000.000 = € 720000 this is the price, exactly for an appartement in Knokke, the most expensive neighborhood along the Belgian coast.
This is a wonderful Lodge in nice English style.
These picture is very well taken with the water in foreground and the mountains in background.
Amso great quality and perfectly colours.
Nice composition, excellent captured.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,

aw shucks, I was saving up to buy this place since your last post, and now its too late. And me with only £398,245 yet to go. Very unfair :) I am not surprised its sold, its a beautiful place and in such a wonderful setting. How cool it would be to rent this place out and stroll the countryside here with camera in hand! Beautiful array of colors too, and the little orange buoys make a nice extra splash on the left.
One thing that really draws my eye is the pylon on the hill. Although I don't find it ugly, it is large and is positioned in a place so it could not be missed. Its interesting for me, as a large grid upgrade is going on in Ireland at the moment, and it will involve the construction of hundreds of these, and huge ones too, in the most scenic places in the country. There are huge campaigns in place to get the companies to put the cables underground, but they say its too expensive. This is an interesting real world vision of how they could end up looking.
Thanks for an interesting post, albeit one that means I cant go and buy this place now. Right so, back to focusing my attentions on Blenheim instead :)
All the best

its great that you added in the 'other' photo for direct comparison.
and now that i see them basically side by side, i like the rougher water more - i'm surprised by that, i thought i'd like the smooth water more...go figure.
the sky is prettier too in this one - but those are just my personal opinions.
any lochness monster sightings here? i want to get him in a photo lol
attractive photo for many reasons, well shot.

Stronachlachar Lodge has a fine mansion appearance and a bonus over looking the lake, with a hilly backdrop.
Perhaps 2 dozen Trekies could rent this place together?

A beautiful find and right on the waters edge....a bargain indeed. I like the little red buoys leading us in and the strikingly bluer than blue sky. I lovely rich colourful capture with the bright lighting conditions.
I love the detail of those little snow capped peaks tucked in behind which hint that this was not such a warm day as it otherwise might appear.
Thanks for sharing
