Stirling Castle

My next photo from Scotland was taken on Sunday, when we took the train to Falkirk and Stirling. The day started with some heavy snow, but later on the sun returned. Unfortunately the light wasn't the easiest to handle.
This photo shows you Stirling Castle in the town of Stirling, seen from the cemetery of the Church of the Holy Rude.

Stirling (Scottish Gaelic: Sruighlea) is located in the council area of the same name and has a very central location in Scotland on the border of between the Lowlands and Highlands, which gave the town an important role in Scottish history as well as the nickname Gateway to the Highlands. The city has about 41,000 inhabitants. Famous are Stirling Castle and the Old Town.
Stirling Castle is located on the volcanic craig (just as Edinburgh Castle on Castle Rock), called Castle Hill. Since the 12th century the castle was the home of the Scottish Kings. The present castle was built during the 15th and 16th century. The last King of Scots who lived here was James VI, who moved to London in 1603, when he also became King of England (as James I).
There has been several sieges of Stirling Castle since the Wars of Scottish Independence, the last in 1746 (Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Jacobite force). Several Scottish Kings and Queens have been crowned in Stirling.

I saturated the colours a bit to get them more vivid and I added a small frame in the Scottish colours. :-)
Hope you like the photo and thanks for your visit!
