As Britain is now suffering from storms, heavy rains, flooding and gale-force winds, I thought I should try to cheer myself and others with a picture from early summer.
On a warm and sunny day in June, near the little village of Thankerton just a few miles from home, two ponies quietly graze on lush grass in a field filled with buttercups. Quite a contrast to the weather we are now having!

just the job, with the two well fed ponies grazing in a field of buttercups,it`s a lovely reminder of calmer summer days.
The ponies are nicely sharp and clear in a good configuration with the BG blurred but still easily recognisable, the perfect antidote for winters day that has thrown every thing at us including thunder and lightning. Whoops, there goes a sink..
Best wishes Les.

This would cheer anybody up in these storms (we have the same here in Ireland too!), a beautiful scene of the cute horses and the field of flowers. I love your choice of composition too, leaving the upper part of the frame filled with flowers. Composition is one of the many things I am learning here on trekearth. So thank you!
All the best

a lovely scene to remind us of dryer and warmer times. Rain is lashing against my window as I write this and the wind blowing a gale. There seems no respite at the moment and my normally calm little river is a wide torrent of muddy fast flowing water. It is an idyllic scene and one that I hope we get lots of this year by way of compensation.
Happy 2014 and enjoy the first weekend of the New Year - B.

Few animals probably appeal so much to a lot of people as horses. They can compete even with dogs and cats. Noone should be indifferent to a photo of horses grazing peacefully on a beautiful meadow in summer. The yellow buttercups increase the appeal of this very nice composition.

Happy New Year to you and your loved ones John! By the sound of things you are being buffeted by wind and rain and with news of yet more flooding a shot like this reminds us of what can be looked forward to later in the year. One thing is for sure, the ponies here look nicely rounded and that is thanks to good grazing! Good choice of exposure settings had given nice sharpness where it matters and softened up the flowers beautifully. All in all a lovely image, I might have allowed a little more space to either side of the ponies when cropping but that's not a major issue. Warm regards Rosemary

Ciao e buon fine settimana

Hi John, I dream rather of a bit of winter, such with a fresh white snow. Not too much, I have to shovel 40 m of the street near my house. But just a little bit :). But I have read that you have really bad weather just now. This is fabulous view, it seems I could touch these horses. And how lovely are the yellow buttercups.
have a fabulous New Year, full of health and joy.

You are quite right, a summer picture is really a good idea now when winter is so dark. These horses seem to enjoy the green grass and they have also positioned themselves very good for your picture.

a very fine and pleasing scene, so natural and peaceful. You captured the lovely, healthy ponies with marvelous sharpness and depth of field, they stand out excellently against the fresh, homogeneous backdrop. Textures and colours all over the frame have exquisite vividness. The light is diffused so nicely and the buttercups add delightful brightness to the scene. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Just getting back to TE after the new granddaughter was born (36h ago). However, I can't upload a new picture for some reason.
Anyway I can catch up with some critiquing starting with this lovely summery picture. The buttercups make an amazing BG with the two horses enjoying the lush grass. A clear composition and quality - beautiful.
Best wishes, Ann
