Autumn Morning Mist by Lanark Loch, a photo from South Lanarkshire, Scotland

Photographer's Note

Taken just half and hour before my last photograph of the jogger, this time as I was walking along the path which runs around the perimeter of Lanark Loch which lies on the outskirts of the small Scottish town of Lanark.

A very misty morning, the sun was gradually breaking through and, as I passed under these trees, I was struck by the beautiful light streaming through the mist. I just hope I have managed to capture what was indeed a "magical moment"! In fact, I think you can still see one or two long cobwebs strung between the branches way above the little seat.

Hi John,

A poetic, creative scene. The mist and ray of sunlight are rare photographic elements you have used well in this composition. I like how it points to the seat as if to pour luck onto anyone who should sit on it. The brooding background and nearly hidden pathway are other subtle beauties in this photo. Vertical framing was a good choice to show the superb and well managed light at the top of the photo.

I've just been listening to Van Morrison, and this photo fits the mood perfectly. Unique use of light, perfectly seen and executed. A magical moment indeed!

A beautiful, moody photograph, John. The inclusion of the empty bench, with the searchlight sunbeam, creates the storyline. The whole sky is beginning to awaken, with promise
You have a fine sense of composition.
The light and shadows are very nicely balanced.

Hi John,
A very pleasant and peaceful scene! The red man has left and the yellow man is also far away. All we have are the sunrays falling on the empty bench as a spotlight, waiting for the next actor to enter the stage. A very beautiful picture!

Amazing how different half an hour can make to the light. The two photos make a formidable duet and are each beautiful in a unique way. I looked very hard and finally found the spider webs, again the light playing a big role here. The lone bench also sets the atmosphere, creating a palpable sense of solitude, tranuillity and the idea that nature is really putting on a special show. The patch of light in the FG is another exquisite element. A fantastic decisive moment, expertly captured, congratulations.

Wonderfully peaceful capture before the joggers come out, John. The placement of the bench is perfect, at the one thirds mark and positioned to catch the misty rays just starting to filter through the trees. Nicely seen and captured.

I have a feeling you're going to be away for the weekend, you tend to be absent on TE for those days :)

But i'm still here!
Just looking around and noticed another one of your nice autumn scenes.
the only thing missing here is that man in his scottish attire you postes a week ago or so sitting on that bench playig his bag pipes! :)

its another fine example of light ray photography :)
love how there are dark and yet very luminous areas too.

Excellent mood excellent photo. I think you have delivered very well what you hand in your mind. Perhaps I would have cropped a bit more off the top. Also you have got just the right amount of detail in the shadows.

Hi John,
excellent series. Even though they seem to be so similar they do have a completely different mood. Here with the lack of people and with the bench in the centre of attention it seems to be so melancholic and peaceful, The sun rays are fantastic again and the feeling of autumn very well captured.

the atmosphere here is wonderful, all due to the fantastic early morning light, and your management of it in this picture. the fallen leaves, the remains of the mist, the light filtering through the trees, all combine to produce this lovely image. the overhanging leaves illuminated beautifully by the sunlight are placed perfectly, while the ray of misty light pointing directly towards the lone bench is quite magical.it is one of those not to be repeated shots, as the same elements may not be present again to provide the same opportunity. so you were obviously the right man in the right place to capture this.

I think others have said things for me. This is rather a poetic image. Love the light through the tree canopy. The empty seat waits invitingly for someone to sit there and perhaps enjoy a contemplative moment.

I've been away for several weeks, so have missed quite a few of your postings; but I couldn't pass over this little beauty! Very atmospheric and excellently exposed in these challenging light conditions. The bench creates a focal point: would it have been even better with an old man sitting there? I'm happy to oblige!

Hi John,

Beautiful photo with a wonderful moodiness about it - the filtering light is just enough to enhance the content.
There is a certain feel of emptiness as well which makes me want to reflect back in time to people that are no longer physically in my life.
Well done I really like this photo.
