Living On The Western Edge Photo

Photographer’s Note

This shot was taken in the early evening/late afternoon when the light has softenned and the shadwos become more interesting.

In the distance is the Shetland village of Hamnavoe on the island of Burra. A beautiful little west-facing hamlet with loads of photo opportunities for me to keep returning. For example there's a sheltered bay, a lighthouse and a jetty - all great foreground stuff!

There's nothing between this village and New York over 'the pond'.

Some would argue that Hamnavoe really comes to its best when it is properly dark - the folk who live here know how to enjoy themselves, a trait of most islanders I think :-)

No polarizer on this show, but I did use a grad tohold back that sky.

Here I like especially this wonderful buildup of the scenery - and this beautiful light. The structures and colours of the rocks are well visible and really great. Tthis must be a special and near to nature place ...!

Good sharpness and nice warm colours of rocks in foreground. Dramatic sky and good overall quality. I also like composition.

Hello Craig,

Contrasts between ground and sky are very attractive especially with splendid textures and formation of rocks. Village textures and cloudy sky are perfectly captured in very good clarity and sharpness. Congratulations.

Yippiaehh Craig,
By looking at your images, one asks a lot of question, one is. this arrid harsh landscape must form people in a certain way that urbanized city people are far away from and suppose there's an other kind of humorand completly differnt daily problems. I would like to se more get in to9 the pubs listen to the conversations etc. looking forward to se some picture from the local bar...
