Photographer’s Note
Another shot from a very wintery weekend in Shetland.
This was taken on a coastal path in the main town Lerwick. This view is the 'sooth mooth' (south mouth) i.e. the entrance to the main harbour. Not much shipping traffic on this day!
Hail and snow showers were continuous, but I waited until there was showers out on the bay, but a clear view of the headlands and a hint of sunlight.
Thanks for looking
Craig

Hello Craig
I like the PoV very much. The visual contrast between the rocks and the water looks beautiful. The sun glare seems a little distracting though.

Hey Craig,
That's been a long time, hope you're doing fine man.
Oh my...what do i see...a Nikon D200!!!??? What went wrong, you pushed yourself to the darkside, this can't be true ;-))))
But hey, the photo is wonderful, who cares with what kind of equipment it is taken, it's the final output what counts and it sure looks good in exposure and composition.

A very northern and "cold" landscape, with snow and a grey sea and sky.
That little spot of orange on the rocks make the perfect touch of color.

Craig,
Excellent POV taking the photo from the level of the rocks in the foreground. The lighting and colors are fine with excellent sharpness and detail. The dark sky creates nice contrast to the patchy sun in the foreground.

Hello Craig,
You show us a nice school example to your composition, very well with 2/3 under and 1/3 above this is perfect.
I like the raw foreground, the big stones together with the little bit snow give a nice light to the dark cloudy sky.
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Craig,
wonderful how the rocks lead into the picture, creating depth.
A very atmospheric setting, with the rain-loaden clouds in the background.
Fantastic how the light illuminates the snow-covered rocks in the front. This has as a result that your picture has a very fine contrast and is well balanced.
best regards,
Laura

Hi Craig,
Welcome back! Very nice shot here with your new equipment. I was wondering if the rock wall on the right side was lit by fill-flash? Great clarity and colors throughout.

Very impressive weather, great timing, aah too bad about the small lens flares and the rusty metal poles, super sharp fg, any sharper would have killed it.

Fantastic Craig!
Your new camera really does it's work. I envy you the weather and the location it really creates unique images far far away from summertime heydays.

Hi Craig
After having congratulated you on purchasing Nikon, I've now got a moment to admire you photo. The ultra sharp foregound contrasts so well against the grey water. The rain in the background as well as the odd ray of sunshine creates a dramatic atmosphere.

WOW... very impressive scene. You made very good use the colors and shapes of the fg to frame the sea and sky. Perfect choice of POV. It is a pitty that we can see some burnspots because the sunray come into your lens. I think it would increase the quality of this photo if you clone the spots out.
Best regards

Hello Graig
Une très belle photo!!
Ce premier plan très net avec beaucoup de détails et de couleurs contraste bien avec l'arrière plan tout en nuances de gris.
Du très bon travail!!

Good to see you posting here again Craig - I think this shot is excellent.
I like the soft light and combined with the snow on the rocks it makes for an almost monochrome image - just with the patches of lichen and the little streak of lens flare providing a bit of colour.
Interesting to see that you switched to Nikon - handling aside I can't really see what the D200 or D2X would give you over your Canon system. The D3 now - that would have been a different story!
Myself, I'm 'making do' with my new D300 - might just be the first digital camera to drag me kicking and screaming away from film (it's bloody great!).
Anyway, good to see you're still alive!
Cheers,
Ben

this is amazing view, i'll add UK to my wishlist :D
i like the tone that you captured in this picture but IMHO you can still improve it by fixing the flares

Hello Craig,
what an unusual, barren landscape...the clarity/ sharpness is impressive. The metalic tones make this appear quite surreal. I hope you are satisfied with Tokina. I wish for Sigma 10-22 because I really love wide lens effect, even though as much as I've read Tokina is said to be of a better quality. I simply think everything has its pluses and minuses.
