Photographer’s Note

A lovely sunny day paddling down the River Tweed with Mitch. He was really going for it as we spent time playing in the rapids (up to grade III).

This wave on Rutherford boathouse weir wasn't helping as it grabbed the front of the boat and pulled it down under the water - so it was another swim, fairly rare for Mitch. I had hurt a rib earlier, mountain biking, so played a bit less vigourously and managed to stay upright for the journey.

The river is beautiful with masses of buzzards, herons, deer and horses etc. We even saw a cormorant, no doubt coming far inland to avoid the big winds out at sea.

There are some excellent stretches of white water here, which can be easily portaged if they are beyond your skill level.

We both paddle Nova Craft Supernova canoes, which are great for rivers - fast, manoeuvrable and good fun.

No cropping of the photo - just some sharpening, using high pass filters.
