Photographer’s Note
This was taken from the road between the Garry Bridge and Loch Tummel. We had stopped to take photos of the tree which is framing this image. Several different compositions presented themselves. This is one of my favourites. A more straightforward image of the tree is in the WS.
I can't remember if I used a filter. If I did it would probably be the 0.6 Lee ND grad.
As you might expect from all the tiny leaves, I needed to use high compression to come under the 200kb, so I reduced the dimensions a bit.

Hello Kath,
Very good composition making good use of the natural framing of the tree in its beautiful autumn colours. The fence line going off at a diagonal makes a good lead-line for the eyes. Excellent light and tones and, as always, very good clarity.

Hello Kath
A nice composition. The yellow leaves, with this warm color, are impressive and make a great natural frame.
I think the fence is cropped too close. I would have liked to see a little more of the path in the foreground, to have a longer diagonal and give a longer perspective. But perhaps it wasn't possible. It's just my vision, and it's a beautiful composition.

Hello Kath,
YOu used the tree branch very well to frame this scene. The colours do remind me of the past season and the beautiful and colourful views. Nice work with the light as the details in the image look great. THanks :-)

Hello Kath,
Une très joli paysage bucolique à souhait ! Les branches cachent àgréablement un ciel un peu laiteux !
J'aurais voulu voir peut-être un peu plus de décor au sol !

Hello Kath,
Although i like the colours more in the ws version, here it is the composition which is much stronger with the overhanging tree as a kind of natural framing.
You yourself here a great spot with high detail in a very colourful landscape.
Filter or not, it all looks very natural with that soft blue sky shining through..

Hello Kath,
the gentle colours of the countryside are beautifully captured and the composition is superb. This autumnal landscape really looks beautiful and somehow cozy. The point of view works very well here and the light is gorgeous, the frame is very smart.

Hi Kath
I really like the framing you have here and you have captured a quintessential landscape from the British Isles. I have to say that the light in the WS image is really spetacular. Frontlit with a dark sky. Both are nicely composed.

Hi Kath,
Bien présenter le cadrage avec l'arbre et les branches qui invite a appréçier le paysage, jolies teintes de couleurs de l'automne, celle en WS est trés jolie, je pense qu'elle aurait aussi mérité d'être poster, beau travail

Hi Kath
This scene exudes autumn light and has a lovely freshness to it. The colours and contrasts are very attractive, and the compo works - though I would have liked to see a bit more of the lower edge and the fence which leads us into the landscape. Best wishes for 2008!

Hello Kath,
Yes, the title of your photo is perfect. I like the creativity that you have given to this composition, using the branches and the leaves of the tree to create a natural and very elegant frame to this beautiful and calm landscape.
Great work, very aesthetic and balanced, with an excellent harmony between all the elements, a great light and a few magnificent colors.
Bravo!
Best regards,

hello kath
you chose a framing which I like to make with the branches which close the image, here it takes a little place, I will have placed the barrier in the angle what will have guided the glance towards the forest, but it is only my opinion and that remains a superb photograph of a landscape which gives me desire for coming to walk in this lanscape

Hello Kath -
I am really partial to the amber tones of light falling on the fall colors, so I prefer the WS image. This is a very nice image and an excellent composition. The compositional choice of the tree to mask the contrasty sky was a good choice. I think there maybe a bit too much tree but under the circumstances is works perfectly. Everything is where it belongs - well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Hi Kath,
Stunning! Maybe the word isn't the most suitable here because one of the things is the 'simplicity' of the landscape, but the photo is gorgeous.
The compo is very well done (why am I not surprised?), with the tree of the FG nicely framing the landscape and the fence enhancing the depth.. The light control is remarkable - you achieved having that green field with sun without OE, the shadowed woods well lit, blue on the sky and fine detail in the foliage of the FG. Did you use any blended layers here to apply different exposure to some areas?
Regards, José.

Hi Kath,
You've achieved wonderful framing here with the huge branch overhead. I really like the colors and the feel of openness - the kind of place to wander aimlessly as the world hurries somewhere else. Great shot and great feel. Fine work and TFS. Gerald

Kath,
it really struck me that you posted at a smaller size. Your reamrk in your post makes sense and it seems to me that you succeeded well with that strategy. The colors are warm and adorable and lookin into the difference of intesity of the leaves in the upper part compared to the mid portion I would agree with you that you most likely used a ND grad here. Perfect composition although I prefer the colors of the WS.
Cheers, Peter

Bonjour, mon amie Kath,

Hi Kath,
Again beautiful autumn weather. It looks like it wasn't so bad over there after all. Golden leaves look so good on that heavy branch surrounding the whole frame. While that clearly is the main focal point of this shot, the green field still looks a bit squeezed against the lower edge on my eyes.

Wow, incredible golden tones, once again, Kath. More stunning in the WS but I agree that this framing is fantastic and making a more appealing image. The way the branches are hanged from the trunk makes a graceful picture. The scenery in the background is also lovely by the change of colors and sunny/shadow parts. I'm sure I wouldn't manage to post this one... I already rejected some of my treking in the forest of Laos, because of the excess of detail... :( I know RAW could help me...

Observing your gallery I can be given account that you have photos of spectacular landscapes. It enchants to me in the all of them used professionalism, congratulations. I like much the colorful one offered in this taking, plenty of splendor, nature, relaxation, balance and composition, aside from the great used point of view. Excellent!

Hi Kath,
Both photos are excellent. The composition is maybe a little bit better for this one but the colours are definitively better in your WS photo. I think that you should have had your WS photo in your main gallery and not hidden in a WS.

Hello Kath,
You are posting one great photo after another at a breakneck speed. I missed this one. Your composition is excellent as usual and your lighting well-handled (this lighting is a bit tricky). A beautiful photo. Excellent photographers like you, Henk, and John Munro, to name a few, are making me a big believer in shooting raw for scenics and architectual shots. Due the fast action and number of photos needed to cover dance and events I am forced to shoot jpegs. Very impressive work!

Hi Kath
An exposition of your fine art of framing, so no wonder this would be your favourite. The colours are definitely better in the WS, but as a compo. this is. I see what you meant in your critique yesterday, when you used the fence as a lead-in to the depths of the image. The sun was to your front left, so the sky is a bit bland. I wonder how beautiful this would look with the sun at your back, against a deep blue sky, especially with those leaves.

Angshu
