Photographer's Note

At the Head of Loch Shiel, this is Glenfinnan, famous for both its natural beauty and its History. A little distance from here you will find the Glenfinnan Monument erected in 1815 in the memory of the failed uprising of Prince Stuart Charles [ Bonnie Prince Charlie - The Young pretender] , son of Prince James, in turn son of the Exiled Prince James ii.

In 1745, the prince attempted to win the crowns of England and Scotland with the help of the highland clans. He was brought up in Italy but made the journey to Scotland in 1745 , he landed in the island of Erskay and then came to Glenfinnan where he assembled support for the uprising.
The uprising ended in the Battle of Culloden, and the prince escaped eventually and returned to France.
