Light On The Buachaille Photo

Photographer’s Note

As per the title - I waited for ages at this spot, one of my favourites on Rannoch More, for the right light (or any light for that matter). The mountain you are looking at is the start of a 7km long ridge known as the Buachaille Etive Mor. The actual top you're looking at is called Stob Dearg (pronounced stop jerak) and the waterfall is on the River Coupall.

This mountain must be the most photo'd place in the highlands of Scotland and it's proximity to the main A82 road makes it so easy to photo. Stop the car, point the camera out of the window and Hey Presto. It rises out of the moor, and it's smaller brother the Buachaille Etive Beag sit side by side at the entrance to Glencoe.

A wonderful place to go and visit.

As for the technical details - only a Hoya CPF was used and the exposure was 1/25s at f/11.

The light in the Highlands really can be incredible can't it?
It is nice to see an alternative view rather than as you describe "Stop the car, point the camera..." Nice composition with the mountain peak and the bottom of the waterfall balancing each other well.
Wonderful colours. I must get back up there :-)

And the light makes it remarkable. Naturally, the chosen perspective is very interesting and longer exposure suits well here.
