This shot was taken on the Isle of Skye. I remember the drive we took on the A863, the weather was unpredictable with storms punctuated by dazzling sunshine. The landscape looked magical but the dynamic range of the light was challenging to say the least. This is the best image that I managed to capture and as you can see the brilliant light on the loch is overexposed. This is a case for HDR photography and skillful processing but I share it with you because I was enchanted by both the view and the storm clouds over the mountains.
If anyone has experience of dealing with such challenging light, I would love some pointers!
In the foreground you can see Gesto Farm with its early to mid-19th century U shaped court of farm buildings. Loch Harport lies beyond the farm and the cloud-covered Cuillins in the far distance.

C'est effectivement un très beau paysage avec le ciel menaçant sur ce paysage verdoyant, une photo très "accrocheuse". Je ne connais malheureusement pas la technique qui permet d'éviter les écueils que tu as rencontrés.

an awesome landscape and a shot full of the drama and beauty of the highlands. The sky and clouds make this little farm look so vulnerable to the elements and that is what makes this shot so wonderful. Beautiful!

as usual your composition is first class,it`s a spectacular view.
It is rather under exposed in some areas, which gives the shot a moody look.
I have taken the liberty of doing a very quick WS which I hope you may find useful, upon reflection I should probably not have cropped..
Kindest wishes Les.

un beau point de vue sur ce paysage.
Le ciel menaçant, les lacs et la végétation forment une superbe photo avec de bons effets.

A great landscape it is with a terrific sky. Light is difficult indeed, but that is why the moment is special. And you have wonderfully recorded the hostile beauty of nature in this well composed panorama.
Superb presentation. Tfs.
With best regards,

Quel beau paysage verdoyant. Les nuages encore accrochés aux montagnes semblent vraiment menaçant.
Cela apporte du caractère a ta photo.

beautiful landscape and stunning cloud formations, which makes the whole scene kind of gloomy and mysterious.
Really they couldn´t be more picturesque for your photo.
Also colors despite cloudy sky are well saturated and well contrasting.
Have a nice evening

To my eyes there is nothing raelly wrong with this photo technically. The challenging light has in fact given atmosphere and a deep sense of isolation and susceptibility. The heavy cloud and the dark hills are dramatic and how I remmeber Skye. Sometimes I think that it is worth having a picture that conveys a mood or story rather than one that is technicaly perfect.
So I love this one!
Kind Regards, Ann

Superb capture of this cold landscape. I like the contrasts and the atmosphere. Well seen!

This is a wonderfully moody shot so typical of Skye and so typical of the sort of light we see during the sort of weather there which you describe in your note.
Your composition is excellent, the foreground white cottages/farm buildings anchoring the whole image perfectly and with some lovely tones, colours and contrasts in the dark hills.
I agree that the distant patch of water is overly bright and it is difficult (if not impossible) to improve that significantly on this JPEG image as details here have been lost forever. Perhaps some more information in those brightest parts could possibly have been retrieved from the original RAW file, I don't know.
I have done a quick workshop for you. I'm not sure if it has brought about any improvement at all but I'd be interested to hear what you think!

it is the first word which came in my mind when it appears in the screen first. Great view. Magical light, I must say, which made this composition special. Excellent one indeed. Tfs.

the Scottish highlands would be very interesting to visit. It reminds me of Norway or perhaps Iceland, and with many whisky destilleries to visit as a bonus:)
I can see that this is a tricky situation for a perfect exposure but i do not think that the overexposed parts is a problem here. Perhaps if you had made an correct exposure in the highlights in Raw format and lifted the shadows after would have been better? But i don´t know, I am far from an expert:)
If this was my photo I would be very happy with the result! Tfs!

This is a fantastic view and I really understand why you wanted to capture the atmosphere created by the dark skies over the silvery lakes. I noticed that you had already received two workshops, and although I don't think any major change or "correction" is really needed I couldn't keep myself from trying one of my own. The difference between myself and the others is that I am so ignorant of PP that I can only do it the easiest way. Please don't get mad at me for bothering you with yet another attempt.

WOW! What an impressive nature picture!
The cloud masses look somewhat like the ash clouds from a volcanic eruption. Equally thickness, equally threatening.
The grandeur of the landscape is further emphasized by seeing the farm at the bottom.
A very attractive composition.
Best regards, Paul

A spectacular panorama of extraordinary beauty, great view of the lake with these green slopes and a stunning sky with those clouds, which give a dramatic touch to the magnificent composition.
A colorful perfect very natural and well contrasted.
A bright image with optimum clarity.
Enjoy a good weekend.

hi rosemary. i've heard about the isle of skye and the superb landscape over there, and your photo proves the written to be right. the light was difficult counter jour, but you turned it to your benefit to impose the dramatic contrasts over there. the clouds look sheltering the tiny farm, settled on a lush meadow. that is a place to find some peace.
