Photographer’s Note

The banners depict the months of the year in Gaelic, a Scottish Highland language. They make a really colourful addition to the station.

Fčis na h-Ňige participants have spent the winter working hard to complete their latest project 'Měosan na Bliadhna', in time for the official launch of the Year of Highland Culture. The project has involved participants working with Fčis art tutor Karen-Anne Melville to produce twelve large banners depicting the months of the year in Gaelic. The banners will be displayed in the Inverness train station throughout 2007. Copies of the banners will also be gifted to the new Inverness Gaelic School due to open in August.
Project co-ordinator and Fčis committee member Laura Cowie, said "The project has been a great success and the participants were really pleased to see their banners finished and hanging in the station. By displaying the banners in this highly visible public space it is hoped to raise the profile of Gaelic amongst the local community and visitors to the area, as well as developing the creativity and confidence of the participants."
The project has received funding and support from Highland 2007, Fčisean nan Gŕidheal, Comunn na Gŕidhlig, FirstScotrail and Acorn Signs. The project also resulted in the production of a Gaelic Calendar for 2007 where you can see all the designs gathered together.
