this is really an excellent photograph david.
the black and white tone is really good and so is the composition. although this photograph doesnt quite have the feeling of " we've made it !!!"
i love the way everyone is looking at the howizon towards the other mountains. their body language has a lot of determination. it seems they all are looking at their final destination :)

I think your greyish B&W is a fine rendreing of the first thin snow on a windy day in the mountains. At first I thought you had too little contrast but judging by your friends trousers and packs you are correct. A grey picture for a grey day. Nicely repeated diagonals in the ridges. A good choice letting the crestline come out of the corner.

Noticed on your intro picture that we had the same barber when we were kids, I also had a haircut with a skew cut over the eyes. No matter how my mother complained that barber never got it right. So he apparently moved to Scotland later!
