Photographer’s Note
View looking north from Sgurr Eilde Mor (1008 metres), The Mamores, Scottish Highlands. On day one of this travelogue we trekked in the Mamores in perfect late autumn sunshine, a cold windless day (3C). There was a temperature inversion allowing us to get above the cloudbase - the early morning sunlight and mist greatly enhanced the lighting. The middle distance mountain is Binnein Beag, which we ascended later in the day and the distant righthand mountain is Ben Nevis, the highest point in the UK.
ADDITIONAL NOTE:
Piles of stones (cairns) are navigational aids and can be found all over the UK.
Their presence has been subject to much debate - in some areas they have become intrusive and detract from the 'remote experience'. In fact there is a general move to remove many unneccesary cairns. They typically mark the route of tracks (footpaths), but with good map reading skills and/or modern technology (GPS) they are not really necessary. Some cairns have grown to gigantic proportions, especially those on popular mountain tops.
This particular (small) cairn marks the summit of the mountain.

Wonderful landscape, mountain tops over the mist but a huge pile of stones and rocks just in front of this beauty. What a pitty!! Hope you have some other shots to post to show the famous Scottish Highlands.

Great colour and contrast in the rocks. And a very mystical feeling from the clouds between the mountains.

I think this is a beautiful shot. The solid shadows in the pile of stones emphasizes the hardness of rock. The clouds around the mountains gives the image a mysterious atmosphere. Nice catch!

Wonderful photo, David. The sharpness and color tones are stunning. Added to that this beautiful background with the clouds you composed a fine shot. I like it very much.

This look like a wonderfull place. Thanks for sharing this a take this lovely scene. I like colors and composition but I tryed to see if with a small cropping on in the upper part the mountain will be placed in a better proportion. Just an idea to share.
The stone look great where they are for me and make a great compo.

the soft clouds separate two extremely sharp and dense plans. A beautiful effect for a wonderful landscape

Really Great shot!! Good exposure. Very mystic composition with mountains and clouds. Sharpness of the rocks is amazing in contrast to fog and sky.
