Claigan, a photo from Highland, Scotland

Photographer's Note

Claigan, on the Isle of Skye, is known for its ‘coral’ beaches. A walk of about 4.5k’s takes one along the shoreline of Loch Dunvegan to the white beach. Close inspection reveals the sand to be made out of dried, calcified sea weed known as maerl. There are also thousands of tiny, delicate snail shells. The island just off-shore to the left is Lampay whereas the larger island straight ahead is Isay.

Hello Rosemary,
Isle of Skye is amazing but very moody if it comes to the weather. You were blessed with actually blue sky and beautiful light. The result is very appealing. I also like the composition with quite low POV and delicate and curvy lines of the bay.

A beautiful landscape captured under a very agreeable light. Well composed, making excellent use of the curving coastline to give the image depth. Lovely natural colours and superb sharpness throughout. The sky is quite delightful.

Hi Rosemary,
beautiful view, very well captured. You had a great light there and you have perfectly used it. I like the curve of the dark rocky beach in the foreground. The clouds seem to bring rain as Kamilutka mentioned the weather must be really unsettled over there.

what a stunning place Skye is! It is a good 20 or so years since I last visited and this makes me want to go back. I love the sweep of the bay here and the light just makes it all so special. A flawless execution and like John's (Tyro) recent post a shot the Scottish Tourist Board would love to get their hands on!

I like the clear left-right movement of this shot, Rosemary - the storm moving out of frame, the curve of the shore, the ripples in the water all carry the eye across the frame that way. Beautiful setting - the beaches in particular are really eye catching, though tough to tell if they're at all comfortable for wading or sunbathing... Beautiful light here, and the way the clouds reflect off the water is gorgeous. Thanks!

What a fascinating note to accompany your beautiful photo. One never thinks of coral reefs in Scotland, I usually associate coral with romantic islands in the Pacific. So you've changed all that with your photo. Beautiful rich colours and great depth. I always love what the wide angle lens does to the clouds, here they look absolutely endless and the depth is so good, we can see beautiful details in the mountains beyond. Lovely shot.

A beautiful autumn weather. I guess you can't take that granted on the Isle of Skye!
The beach makes very nice curve here and rocks of shoreline make a clear line. I guess tidal variation is fairly big there.

one of my favorite photos i've seen here on TE for awhile.
what a difference that sweeping curve makes on the entire scene, as well as the clouds curving around - or at least it looks that way.
It would be great to have a closer look at that beach you mentioned!

I love the curves of the bay, and it's really cool that the clouds in the sky seem to be mimicking it in its shape. A beautiful play of light and shadow over a place with such rich and wonderful textures. Te ripples in the water are really cool too.

Amazing viewpoint you made and the wide lens is a gift for a shot like this, an excellent camera work and I love the thought you've put into making this. Astonishingly effective as the beach just begs for the wide angle to obtain the effect you are hoping for. A wide-angle shot should make you feel like you are standing there! The scale gives it such a tremendous open wide feel while the curvy lines of three diff colors sweep steadily for the eye to fasten onto as strong lead in lines to take us all through the shot. Excellent perspective by covering the entire bottom of the image with foreground details. A wonderful pict, the joy of of being there and moment, which is well exposed with some contrasting tones and rich colours. What I love most are; the bold contrasting curves, the atmosphere of tranquility and the massive over hanging clouds that make the picture so appealing, Top notch shot :))

Wonderful seascape with great colors and lights. I like the shapes drawnb by the coast, and the ripples on the sea as well. The greenery provides good contrast. Very peaceful and soothing to look at, nice work. Regrads from Brazil!
