Good Morning Everyone,
Living where I do, in the countryside, we don't often get stunning sunsets, so it was a great delight, on our very first night in Scotland, that this happened!
A decision to walk over the dunes, to Prestwick beach, proved to be a wise decision. When we got there, not only was the sun setting but the yachters were all heading back to the marina, across the line of the sun.
It was a race against time!
I had to get my camera out and ready and the yachters were skimming rapidly over the water's surface!
I was just in time!
I wish you a lovely Sunday, Bev :-)

Nice golden tones and eflections on water, perfect result with a sailboat well situated in your composition.

A very attractive picture, looks almost as it was in sepia with these very limited colours. The sun is very well placed at the third and the sailing boat, against the sun, stands out in the composition.

great timing really. Wonderful soft colours in this pleasant image, and beautiful light.

Beautiful photograph with great atmosphere. The clouds, the reflections in the water and the boats all add up to make a lovely visual. I should also like to get a picture of the golden light stretching all across the water.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice Sunday.

I love the coppery tones of this sunset. Well done for catching the FG sailing boat just at the right moment. A very calming image and one to linger on.
Best wishes, Ann

A delightful way to start the holidays! Nicely exposed to capture the sun's reflections and retain detail in the shadow areas. The silhouetted sails of the yachts are well placed and help draw the viewer into the scene. Have an enjoyable Sunday afternoon.

That's a Topper dinghy in the foreground, being towed to land by the owner wading in the water. Not much rapid skimming going on in that light weather! However, that doesn't detract from a very pleasing shot. My only suggestion would be that framing the shot so that the boats were heading into the frame rather than out of it (i.e. moving the camera somewhat to the left) may help the composition. Just a thought.

I understand that this view made you excited and that you were happy to manage this fine composition, where one of the yachts is perfectly placed in the reflected sunlight. The mellow blend of blue, pink and orange is stunning.

This is a fine memory from your first night in Scotland and one which you can add to your pictures of the vibrancy of Glasgow during the Commonwealth Games.
How fortunate that you took your camera with you on that romantic stroll over the sand dunes at Prestwick! And your timing here couldn't have been better with those sailing boats nicely aligned to the reflection of the setting sun and with the nearest boat beautifully silhouetted. And I'm guessing that must be the Isle of Arran in the distance?
Lovely light and colours, a fine composition and excellent detail and clarity.
P.S. An interesting comment from that old salt, Will, I see! I'd hardly noticed the fact that the nearest dinghy was actually being towed to shore by the man wading in the water - even more impressive!

This is extremely beautiful sunset post! I love the warm tonality you achieved here which built the scene so beautifully! Excellent composition as well as execution. TFS!

This is a beautiful sunset andI really like the deep coffee colors here, so unusual for a sunset. Perfect timing to capture both the boats and the sun perfectly on thirds which really adds a lot to the resulting image. The golden light on the water glittering makes this seem like a mystical place. A really good idea to hit the beach and get this resulting shot.

Hello Bev - The first thing I noticed about this shot was the wonderful bronze tinted colour palette; I love it. Your composition and subject breathes tranquillity, beautifully balanced and finely managed this is a lovely shot. I am impressed by the light management... no blow outs. Excellent!

I'm glad to see the sun behind the clouds, I prefer it that way other than having the sun blasting in my face, but thats just me.
the dark light and ambiance is very attractive.
as is the sunlight shining down onto the water below.
whats not to like right?!
enjoy your day
jcpix (13716) 2014-08-04 16:18
How ironic, yeah....you have to travel further North where there's probably even less of the sun to be had, in order to catch a sunset!? ;P
This is a beauty one, no doubt...and your rush to capture the moment was certainly worth the effort! The tranquility of the imagery shines through (yep, pun intended), and there's still the anticipation of the sun breaking through to liven the scene. A perfect position taken to have the silhouetted sailboat "highlighted" by the warm reflection on the water. A golden result, in virtually every sense of the term! Have a wonderful day. All the best.
To answer your question, I've finally returned home after a few weeks of watching the dogs...whew, busy but loved every minute. :)

Good morning Beverly,
The boats scaled diff. distances from shore out to as far as the horizon.
One sail is just against the glow of the sun on water, well spotted and applied.
A sight no photographer would missed.

very nice night seascape. I like the composition and contrast. Pleasant warm hues. Good shot.
Have a nice evening.

I like the timing here that gives a nice decisive moment with the yacht perfectly positioned in front of the setting sun to maximise the graphic elements. Good sharpness, saturation and colour. Also f]good to mask the sun using the clouds as a natural filter to avoid lens flare and oe. Tfs!
emka (81900) 2014-08-06 21:09
I can imagine that it was delight to see. Wonderful sunset. And you were quick with the camera, timing is perfect. I am happy with my camera, I do not need anything more, but sometimes it is slow :(. Marvelous colours like sepia. I am looking forward to the pictures from Scotland.
Warm regrad s Malgo

Very nice warm lights in backlights
Good control lights with the sun

Beautiful moment! Light and colours are great and I really like those clouds hiding part of the sun and the little boat passing right on the place of the reflection.

What a lovely, beautiful and pleasant-looking picture!
I truly enjoyed your idea and your photo work!
Sharpness, management of light, colors, horizontal format, black borders, chosen pov and composition are all excellent photo qualities that I really liked!
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your week-end,
