River Tay from above Balmerino Photo

Photographer’s Note

I took this picture on a beautiful early afternoon a few days ago from a lovely spot just above Balmerino on the north Fife coast, looking across the River Tay to the Carse of Gowrie. Near the river at Balmerino lie the ruins of Balmerino Abbey: if you click on the link you will see one of my earlier pictures but will also be able to read a lot more about the abbey and its history.

Shot in RAW using a circular polarising filter and converted and edited in PSE6.

How beautifully you've brought together two elements in nature, the parallel band clouds and the tracks in the stubble field.

Hello John,
superb tones, hues, and lighting, with everything in its place. There is so much for the eye to absorb, the light is fantastic, worked very well, with a good game of shades and beautiful colors, and the sky is impressive.

Hello John,

Another very fine picture from one of your favourite stamping grounds.

Although the shoreline of the distant Tay is bang in the middle of this image, the composition is very satisfying.

The twin lines of the track across the field, and of the stubble, make good lead-ins towards the water and the low hills in the BG. Fine autumn colours in the trees too.

The other thing I particularly like here is the fan-like shape of the clouds at the left, which echo the pattern in the field.

Your faithful Tamron has produced fine sharpness and clarity at its shortest focal length.

This is a lovely capture of the afternoon sun creating long shadows across the freshly mowed field. The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful. Textures are gorgeous.
