Photographer’s Note
The Falkirk Wheel is the world's only rotating boatlift and is used to connect the Forth & Clyde and Union canals in central Scotland.
This magnificent, mechanical marvel has been constructed to 21st Century, state-of-the-art engineering and it is already being recognised as an iconic landmark worthy of Scotland's traditional engineering expertise.
Designed to replace a series of lock gates built in the 19th Century - long since demolished and replaced by housing - the Falkirk Wheel is the showpiece of the Millennium Link project where coast-to-coast navigation of the canals has been re-established for the first time in over 40 years.

What a great mechanical construction
I guess it’s a kind of a …(to bad there is no note)
But the composition and the reflection of this bridge are beautiful

Great reflexion indeed.
Though, I would have blurred the edges of the wheel on the reflexion. They are strangely rough and the water seems too still to generate that (my guest would be sharpening artefacts).

This is indeed a most attractive structure (being and engineer, I find this kind of structures very interesting). It would be nice to see a sequence of pictures to show how it works! I guess the boats that have to be lifted have to enter from the left through the circle. Is that correct? In that case the position of the boat in the picture is a bit confusing, as it appears to be entering the "elevator" from the right.

This looks very cool. Very futuristic. I really like the sharpness of the image and the smooth, metallic, lines of the wheel. It also matches the smooth, beautiful green grass. It all has that clean, crisp, futuristic look. Its size on the landscape also gives that feel and the reflection adds to the crispness. I like the contrast here, too, really letting it punch out of the image nicely. Very nicely documented. Good job.

Yes, this is an amazing structure, I have seen it before in the construction business magazines. I think you made a fine picture to with a good POV and a lovely reflection to back it up. The little white boat is a fine scale element.

It's a incredible mechanical structure....
pour la photo : le ciel est un peu trop blanc

Great composition , i liked the 50-50 shot from image and reflection, the POV is brilliant, framing is worth appreciation.
In short -- A job well done.

Nice capture. I could imagine how it works but would like to see some literature. Can you share some weblink about this place?

Great moment that you have caught. I recall watching its construction on TV. None of the hour long video footage says what your one picture does.
All the best!

The framing, reflection and POV are really great.
Besides its an impressive construction.

Hi Magico,
That truly is a mechanic marvel!! Good that you give it some attention, since I feel that industrial landscapes are underrepresented here on TrekEarth - compared to how many interesting pieces of technology there are around the world. Nice one, well composed with a very pleasant sharpness and reflection!
Greetings,
Dennis

Fascinating feat of engineering and a wonderfully creative leading line. The color and clarity are great. Well done.

Excellent shot. It is both artistically done and still representative of the subject. I had to click on it just to figure out what it was and the note was quite helpful.

What a great photo - the reflection etc is beautiful but even better is the engineering feature itself - i'm fascinated with stuff like this - amazed at how people come up with the idea and then the actual creation.
Thanks for sharing these pics
