Photographer’s Note

Edinburgh and its August festivals (I use the plural as Edinburgh's Festival is a number of festivals on at one time)brings in the tourists by the thousands. All here to enjoy the atmosphere and explore this historic city. Tour buses sail across the city like colourful galleons on wheels. And what seems like a million taxis weave their way through traffic dodging bicycle rickshaws. For the Edinburgh locals (my own son being one) August can be a pain: getting from one part of the city to another being a nightmare.More so this year as Princess Street is closed to traffic as work is underway on laying the new tram system. My son for example, having to set off one hour sooner than usual to pick up his girlfriend from work.We housed swopped with him over the last couple of days and he was able to enjoy the tranquility of the Scottish countryside while we plunged into the (for us) happy chaos that is Edinburgh during the festival.
n.b. Horrible Histories is a series of titles by the author Terry Deary and much loved by children, especially boys.
