he Palace of Holyroodhouse, commonly referred to as Holyrood Palace, is the official residence of the Scottish monarch in Scotland. Located at the bottom of the Royal Mile in Edinburgh, at the opposite end to Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace has served as the principal residence of the Kings and Queens of Scots since the 16th century, and is a setting for state occasions and official entertaining.
Holyrood Abbey was founded by David I, King of Scots, in 1128, and the abbey's position close to Edinburgh Castle meant that it was often visited by Scotland's monarchs, who were lodged in the guest house situated to the west of the abbey cloister. James IV constructed a new palace adjacent to the abbey in the early 16th century, and James V made additions to the palace, including the present north-west tower. Holyrood Palace was re-constructed in its present form between 1671 and 1679 to the Baroque design of the architect Sir William Bruce, forming four wings around a central courtyard, with a west front linking the 16th-century north-west tower with a matching south-west tower. The Queen's Gallery was formed within the shell of the former Holyrood Free Church and Duchess of Gordon's School built in the 1840s adjacent to the palace and opened to the public in 2002 to exhibit works of art from the Royal Collection.
Queen Elizabeth spends one week in residence at Holyrood Palace at the beginning of each summer, where she carries out a range of official engagements and ceremonies. The 16th century Historic Apartments of Mary, Queen of Scots and the State Apartments, used for official and state entertaining, are open to the public throughout the year, except when members of the Royal Family are in residence.

You have done a wide tour of the U.K.
When I last visited Edinburgh, Holyrood Palace was out of bounds, for reasons you mention!
You have done well to include the whole of the frontage, along with some figures, really helping viewers to appreciate the building and its scale. The inclusion of the overhanging branches gives a softer, more rural appeal.
My warm regards,

The brancehs are helping to frame the palace. The wideness of the area in front of the palace is giving depth to the composition. The point of view is showing the details of the architecture of the Holyrood palace. The good luminosity is bringing out the colors. Have a nice fay.

The framing trees help give the image depth and partly mask the rather grey sky. The visitors enliven the scene and offer a sense of scale. The colours and detail in the architecture are very well rendered despite the poor light.

A superb composition of this wonderful palace, I like the tree branches including those at the top, they are a great embellishment to the solid walls of the building.
An image to enjoy with its beautiful color, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Have a good start to the week.
All the best.

I like Maria Queens of Scots, so specially I visited the palace to be at her apartments and her special room, so low doors and so small rooms
But the castle is truly impressive, taken leaving space at the front, good the natural frame given by branches
Good work regards

great the panoramic view as the presentation of the Palace of Holyroodhouse with the presentation of the few visitors to allow us to admire its beauty and the architectural constructions and details of it.Excellent the light and the colour management.
mirosu (16273) 2014-08-29 10:58
You have found a great viewpoint which leads nicely towards the beautiful palace. The excellent light creates fine contrasts to the colours and the textures. This fine exposure is incredibly sharp so that the details are perfectly accessible. The people in front add nice life to the scene.
Very well done.

I have to say that this onde caught my eye...mostly due the overwhelming composition.
ourania (47120) 2014-10-01 9:01
I like very much this fine presentation of the Holyrood Palace, your well adjusted panoramic frame and the slight perspective that added dynamism. The vegetation that provides a great natural frame has been included in well considered proportions. Details and colours are wonderful, although they look so natural for the subdued daylight, they are attractive. The people make the scene more lively but in a discreet way. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,
