Photographer's Note
From Stirling I came back to Edinburgh to enjoy fine evening. The weather was marvelous so I came to the same places I saw in the morning to make some shots in nice light conditions. In Edinburgh there are two castles - one on the hill and Holyrood Castle in the town. Prince Charles with Camilla was just in Holyrood so I couldn't visit it. I coach surfed there so after busy day with visiting I enjoyed nice evening with my host and another (Chinese) surfer.
I liked so much the crown-like tower of St. Giles. It is strange, there are only a few photos of it here on TE.
St Giles' Cathedral, also known as the High Kirk of Edinburgh, is the principal place of worship of the Church of Scotland in Edinburgh. Its distinctive crown steeple is a prominent feature of the city skyline, at about a third of the way down the Royal Mile from the Castle. The church has been one of Edinburgh's religious focal points for approximately 900 years. The cathedral is dedicated to Saint Giles, who is the patron saint of Edinburgh. The Thistle Chapel is the chapel of The Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Scotland's foremost Order of Chivalry. The chapel was built in 1911 to designs by Robert Lorimer, at the south-east corner of the church. It is a small, but exquisite, chapel with carved and painted fittings of extraordinary detail. The Order, which was founded by James VII in 1687, consists of the monarch and 16 knights. The knights are the personal appointment of the crown, and are normally Scots who have made a significant contribution to national or international affairs.
This chapel is wonderful indeed, but my photos are not so good.

Hello Malgorzata,
A fine composition of this impressive cathedral with a long history. The busy atmosphere contrasts well with the Gothic lines of the architecture. A well presented image with good colours and sharpness.

Witaj Malgosia,

Hi Malgo,
This is a fine picture of St. Giles' Cathedral lit by the low west evening light. And, even at this time, the Royal Mile is still quite busy with people. I actually took this picture over three years ago late at night from a very similar viewpoint when it was very much darker.
Excellent colours and lighting and superb detail and sharpness. I think the crowds of people in their different coloured clothes actually add to the appeal of this picture.
Did you know that, despite its name, St Giles' Cathedral is not actually a cathedral at all? The title gives an idea of its magnificent scale, but was only strictly correct for two short periods when Bishops served in the Scottish Church, from 1633-8 and from 1661-89. Just thought you might be interested in that!
Kindest regards,
John.

Ciao cara Malgo,
I remember with pleasure this precious Cathedral seen during my trip to Scotland many years ago. It is true that there are few images in TE of this church, a real shame because it is very old and its architecture is very interesting. Your POV is very good, so also the photo quality. Brava!
Ciao, buona settimana!

Czesc Malgorzata,
Ladne cieple swiatlo z dlugimi cieniami.
Pozdrowienia

Ciao Signora IF
You got a blue sky in Edinburgh? You really do lead a charmed life :) Excellent shot of St Giles, its architecture is very unusual as you say. I stayed in a hostel on just further down this street on the left in Cockburn Street and had a wonderful time. Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities in the world and I think you have captured its essence well. Have you ever read any Ian Rankin crime novels with Inspector Rebus? He gives us such a good insight into the many facets of Edinburgh.
Have a beautiful day whilst you're resting those Itchy Feet

Hi Malgo,
The most noteable Gothic-archi. in Scotland, well taken from it's facade-view's.
The people moving around scaling the size of the cathedral, yet giving a sense of motion.
A bit enhance tones, to my view.
Regards
Ike

Hello dear Malgo
The steeple of the cathedral is very famous...almost shaped like a crown. Its majestic standing in the square. The light is fantastic as well see a fine polarised blue sky contrasting with it!
Best Regards
Angshu
