Photographer’s Note
This was the view from our kitchen window throughout the 1950s. The romantic silhouette was the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh until a few years ago. Edinburgh Castle is peeping up to its right. The buildings just beyond the trees were demolished about 1958 to make way for university buildings, despite great opposition. You can see the recent state of the area in the BirdsEye view here. It looks as if this photo was taken in late autumn; workshop shows a slightly different aspect in early autumn.
Scanned, filtered with Neat Image, some black marks removed in Photoshop, USM, border added in Photostudio. No other adjustment.

Simply extraordinary, Winifred.
I was two years old at the time. Despite a bit of softness there is wonderful detail in the buildings and trees and considering the age? It is fabulous. I love the trees in the FG and the nice balance to the whole shot. Amazing.... Many thanks and warmest regards,
Shelly

Hello Winifred,
It seems a painting, with this beautiful foliage in the foreground and the buildings fading in the background. Another excellent work!
Bravo!

Hi Winifred,
A very fine documentation of "older times". This is also a fine picture and a good scan. I like the addition of the BirdsEye view!
Kind regards

Hi Winifred,
Quite a view to have from one's kitchen! Despite the hazy appearance and the paled colours, it still is an attractive image, beyond being a valuable documentary. The same goes for the WS.
Thank's for sharing.
Regards, José.
