Photographer’s Note

The Lammermuirs under snow. Although in the Lowlands of Scotland the land goes up over 500m from the nearby sea, providing great contrast. Nearby hills go higher than this.

For a few days, the snow fell, roads were blocked, folk were out sledging and skiing, then three days later it was all just about gone.

I have been told the rickle of stones visible on the top of Lammer Law (the central hill) is apparently the remains of a monument that was built on the summit in honour of Queen Victoria, which was hit by lightning and collapsed, but I can find no evidence to support this (let me know if you have any). If you got up to the summit cairn you can still find shaped stones, some with letters carved on them.
