Photographer’s Note

A picture taken at the same site as yesterday's posting, this time of the millpond which provides a "reservoir" of water to feed the little watermill here.

Now owned and cared for by the National Trust for Scotland, the mill is still in working order. The last time I was inside it about ten years ago, the guide opened the sluice gate and the mechanisms all burst into action - a wonderful experience. We were able to purchase a bag of flour too, to take home and bake a loaf.

You can read more about this lovely little mill and its history here.

In the picture, you can also see a little bridge to the left, across which passes a footpath to take you to the Phantasie Doocot, an interesting little dovecot probably dating from the 16th Century and of rather unusual "beehive" design.

Picture taken in April in low evening sun. Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE6.
