I had a lovely day today visiting Scotland's National Airshow at the Museum of Flight, East Fortune. It was a beautifully clear and sunny day and I spent hours trying to catch some pictures of the aeroplanes as they flew past.
And then, for some reason I turned around and, still having my long lens attached, saw this funny sight and grabbed a shot. The little girl sitting on her father's shoulders was happily enjoying an ice cream but it was a few seconds later that the father suddenly realised that the ice cream was melting and running in his hair and down his face!
I shall try to post some pictures of the aeroplanes later.

Hi John. Well, the ice cream is a few centimetres form his mouth and his nostril and still no reaction- unless someone (in a skirt?)out of our line of vision is demanding his full attention.I love the title and it gave me cause to laugh. The daughter is enjoying the whole meltdown experience- there is a cheeky expression in those eyes. great moment. Excellent sharpness. regards. Klaudio.

hello my friend .. really good picture.. the father is aware in my opinion but he lets his angel to make it :) no matter.. The angels are free to melt their icecreams to the father's head down:))

hats off, John
She is creating a new shampoo, with some vanilla or strawberry flavour! Nicely spotted with a very good sharpness against a blurred background. You definitly became a street photographer!

Une photo prise sur le vif, amusante et de belle qualité. Le papa, très patient, en est quitte pour un petit shampoing et une séance de lessive!

Ha ha, John, this is a beauty. The girl and the photo. You should always turn around now and then, because the best photos may be found behind you. I am sure your pictures of the airplanes turned out well but they could never be as charming as this perfect daily life shot.

It's not often that I laugh out loud at a photo, but this one really hit the mark :-) The little girl enjoying the ice cream and the long suffering dad just soaking it up (literally and metaphorically). Great catch.

a superb moment in time capture this. Candid and perfectly executed it is a real gem of an image. I bet this man would love a copy of this shot John, it is wonderful!
Enjoy your Sunday - B.

TFS and have a nice Sunday

What a lovely daily life picture with this child and his ice creme.
Father gives no reaction and do all as normally.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
Excellent composition and nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,

Lovely bit of timing John-a real gem with your usual excellent composition and clarity. At least ice cream is not so rotten as bird poo.:)

A fantastic portrait of the father and his daughter. Lovely exposure, perfect focus and bokeh. A top shot.
(Thanks for your glowing critique of the puffin photo. Much appreciated.)

this is a brilliant moment, it made me laugh. Taken fabulously including that cheeky look and eye contact. I love it.

This is brilliant, and has made me smile broadly. The innocent little girl enjoying her ice cream, and her father blissfully unaware that he is acting as a napkin :) at first glance I see it in his hair, but then clicking on the image in more detail shows that he is completely covered in drips. Very funny scene, and an excellent candid scene. Both of their expressions are priceless.
Have a great Sunday

This is a very funny picture! A very good capture with perfect sharpness and excellent colours. He surely noticed the ice cream under his nose...
Spyder (231) 2014-07-27 8:40
You could have also called it 'What a Drip!'
Someone should come up with an ice cream that is child proof, i.e. it melts slower.
Thanks for the laugh, great catch.

this scene is fantastic, it seems that you turned around, saw them and captured them at a perfect moment, when enough ice cream had dripped down already, the father hadn't realized it yet and the little girl looked straight into the lens, making you an accomplish:) A wonderful unrepeatable moment, presented very effectively, in a simple and playful way. Colours, textures and expressions are superb and set off marvelously by the dark, homogeneous backdrop. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Glad you got to the air show and look forward to seeing your pictures. This picture is an absolute gem. Not only is it very funny but it is also a lovely portrait. The girl has lovely hair and eyes and is looking straight at you.
Absolutely super image.
Best wishes, Ann

Good humorous candid, dripping ice cream is especially dangerous when females are in control...
I do not know why, but women of all ages have utilized ice cream for attention.
Thanks for sharing,

Hi John Delightful scene! The girl is so adorable and the father do not react about the ice cream on his hair. Lovely scene with stunning quality. We almost can count the hair in the man's beard. and the curls of the girl, marvelous. Unfortunately in my family all (me included :( ) have straight hair. She looks like Shirley Temple.

Hello John: This is easily one of the most amusing photos I've ever seen on TE. Both the man and the little girl are going about their business as if nothing at all is out of the ordinary. Surely the guy has to know, right? How could he not feel it dropping on him? What took him so long to realize it and how could he have possibly thought everything would be just fine? This is hysterical!
Thanks for the laugh..................Greg

Ciao caro Giovanni
hahahaha this is delightful. Delicious, delectable and delightful. What a decisive moment, it's so compelling. The little girl's dad is in for a surprise - and perhaps a snack - later. Superb definition, colour and skin tones. I also like the tight framing, an excellent composition.

Another one.. I have a good laugh at your PF. 'Oh.. Dad loves ice cream..I eat first, dad catches the rest...':-D
Have a nice afternoon, JOhn.

Ha! Ha! John, I'm impressed.
Impressed with your skill and impressed by your ability to get this shot so surreptitiously!
It's a cracker!
A shot that is clear, crisp, very well composed and amusing to boot!
Is the dad so engrossed in something that he is oblivious to what's happening or is he just too interested to interrupt the proceedings or is he totally unaware of what's happening!!
Oh, wouldn't we like to see further shots!
Glad you told me about this or I might have missed it!
macjake (52830) 2014-07-30 21:29
easily one of the funniest and most charming photos i've seen on TE, or anywhere for that matter.
looking at this surely is making me want a ice cream cone :)
this is one of those shots John, that there really isn't much to say, its time just to sit back and enjoy, take it all in.
wonderful photo, one of your best people shots
