Another picture of my old secondary school in Dundee.

This wonderful Victorian building was severely damaged by fire in recent years and there were real fears that it might need to be demolished. But funds were made available and it has now, thankfully, been restored to its former glory.

You can see other pictures of it and read about its history here and also here.

This was my second attempt using my newly-acquired Photoshop Elements 6 to convert from RAW and edit. I think I still prefer RawShooter Essentials or Canon's DPP for conversion and my old PSE2 for editing, but I shall persevere!

A very good shot that captures the majesty of this building. It's a shame about the blue sign near the entrance but then there wasn't much you could do about that I suppose. Nice work, PHIL

John,
Nice shot of the grand school. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. The angle you chose for the shot is great showing nice depth and detail in this scene.

Asa

Hello John

Magnificent building and a great exposure to show off the splendour it represents.
The head on photo would propably look good as well, but this angle and POV really gives that "punch" that every photo needs.
But the greatest element I want to comment is the great overall exposure. The contrast between the sky and the building is marvellous and the sharp transition really makes the building stand out even more.
Thank you for sharing.

Odd Jarle

Nice building. I personally think that it is Harry poter's school.
:)

Hello John,

A great perspective in this shot of your alma mater. Doubtless you have old pictures of the whole school lined up in front of it.

Lovely sharp details in the stone work, and a beautifully rendered sky.

Did you do have to do any perspective correction here?

I didn't know PSE 6 could do RAW conversion - I don't suppose it caters for Fuji RAW. I must say I'm still stumbling my way through PSE 1, there's so much to take in, and then to remember.

Unlike you, I haven't managed to insert links in my notes successfully, although I followed the instructions in the FAQ, it won't seem to work for me.

Regards,

Peter.

Hi John,
The low POV emphesizes the impressiveness of the building. I like the perspective and the colours here. The big tower is very well placed at the "golden point".
Greetings from Gothenburg
Gunnar

hello John,
I think this is the best of your very good series of Morgan Academy pictures. I prefer thos POV. You have managed to get everything in. Nice sharp detail and I like that we can see all the turrets and myriad of architectural detailing that you have been able to show.
Well done,
Bev

Another good shot John, I like the sharpness and you already know I love the architecture.

Take care

Hello John,

This is a spendid building ... does it look a bit like Hogwarts?
You have chosen the best angle, IMO, to show the wonderful architecture and get real depth to the shot! Good, sharp image defining lots of details.
Is that blue sky above it? In January! Amazing!
I like the links! If you look back at 'Darkness over Pompeii' you might notice a very newly learned skill in operation!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

definately a better side profile here, john, of this memorable building
smashing work with the raw and pp..i would have taken out the blue sign though..
my old school..boness academy...is long gone..to make way for the up and coming house owners in boness...i think even its successor modern secondary has been demolished as well..
cheers
geof

Hi John,

very impressive building. Due to great POV its magnificence is stressed perfectly and it gives great sense of dimension and grandeur. The sky with gentle almost seen clouds is in favour to your old secondary school, as they go very well together. I would like also to compliment the frame.

Kind regards,
Jeri

Hello John,a good POV for this shot of this very fine building.I like the outline the decorative features create against the sky.
The Victorians certainly knew how to build!
The light shows all the details clearly, tfs.
Regards Jean.
