Photographer’s Note
Kids play but is it the seventies, eighties, nineties...?
The clues are there, CCTV, take-away food shop, wheelie bins. But city kids are the same as they ever were and the tenements are still there. What has changed is that now we have to be thankful that they are lively enough to be out and about, playing in the street and not tranfixed to a TV or computer screen. Not obese yet,( an issue in Scotland, particularly) thank God!.At least they have the freedom to play, but are they as safe as they used to be? and what does the future hold for them? A recently published UNICEF report found kids in the UK to be the least happy. Shame on us!
Snapped over someone's shoulder, cropped and desaturated. I am well aware that technically the image is not "all that" but i think the subject matter makes it worth a post. Hope you agree.
nb I have today (25th Feb)posted the original shot as a workshop

It's true, Bev! this could be almost any time within the best few decades. Inner city kids have made their playgrounds wherever they have found them, just as country children have.
I love this real-life image simply because it is real life and not a toursit shot.

Hi Bev,
it's true the shot is worth a post, despite the low quality of the bits and the bytes.
It's a very good shot, and I really like all the space in the middle, the way we see the whole street stretching to the back - it makes for an unusual compo.

Hi Bev. This is a super composition, very muich worth posting! I really thought it was a shot from the 70's at first - great capture of the boys and great POV looking down the pavement. It is a shame about the technical side, as I think you could have got a lot of good critiques for this. It seems that it's lacking in resolution rather than blurred due to motion of the camera. I'd be interested to see the original in a workshop before you did the post processing.
TFS. Leon.
