Photographer’s Note
A vantage point to watch the parade. Annan's annual event of the Riding of the Marches culminates in a grand parade through the town and onto the High Street. There are floats and pipe bands and a children's fancy dress parade. I arrived late and found myself at the back of the crowd of onlookers. Unable to get a vantage point to photograph the parade I resorted to aiming my camera at the onlookers. Some of whom found vantages points in the upper windows of shops and pubs.
Riding the Marches means to ride the boundaries. These ceremonies take place across many border towns at this time of year.
pp work: had to adjust perspective here.cropped and unsharp mask applied.
ps I have included a workshop of shots I managed to get (although they are not very good).
postscript: John is right about the distorted heads! But hey ho, they do look funny as if they are seen through one of those fairground mirrors. By adjusting the window frame to fit the frame I have created monsters! Does anyone familiar with Paintshop know what can be done?

Hello, again, Bev.
This is a nice shot but I think there might just be a wee problem here. You have done a great job straightening the verticals in this one so that the window appears nice and square, but the transformation has distorted the heads of the people a bit too! Honestly, I don't see a way around this one - though it makes them look all the more amusing.
Best Wishes,
John.
P.S. I actually like the other pictures you have posted in your workshop - they are not at all bad!

A very funny capture, made all the more amusing by the distortion created when you tried to straighten the perspective.
Sorry -- I am a Photoshop person, so I cannot help

Hi Bev
I really like this shot - simple good quality compo, clear and amusing expressions and have to agree about the distortion of the 2 people on the left adds to the shot - almost looks like the reverse of a wide-angle lens distortion?!
Re your workshop shots - i love the one of the horses where they are in motion and the different facial expressions! A good capture of the event.

Hi,
There's always good shots to be had in the crowds! and there's always some lucky folk with great views! Good capture of their expressions. Set your alarm clock for Langholm next week! Thanks.
