Another picture taken during my walk with some friends last Wednesday through the small but excellent and well cared for Eskrigg Nature Reserve on the outskirts of Lockerbie in Dumfriesshire.
This is the same red squirrel which I showed in my last picture. I was lucky to get any shots as he/she was amazingly agile and skittish, scampering up and down trees and sitting still only for seconds at a time.
You can see a larger version here on "beta" TE.

I prefer this one with its environment than the close up portrait, even though it was a very good one as well
Razor sharp, nice natural colors
Bravo, very pleasant and successful
Have a nice WE

Hello John ,
I don't know exactly if I prefer this version or the previous one . Both of them are interesting and beautiful . Here , I like the squirel in its environment , with the green moss and the tiny mushrooms . Superb sharpness and use of the blurred BG . perfect matural colors .

Hi John, How cute is this red squirrel and so red :). Wonderful. But here I am also interested in these small mushrooms. I used to be mycolog-amateur and I have the whole shelf of books about mushrooms in many languages. I wonder what they are. But at the moment I have no time to look in the Handbuch fuer Pilzfreunde in six volumes. \
Amazing colour and sharpness.
Warm regrads MAlgo

Ciao e buona domenica

A very cute little squirrel and a very sharp and well composed picture. The is a very good colour balance here with the brown squirrel at one corner and the brown fungi at the other. An interesting link here too.

Excellent nature shot with the squirrel shown in its natural setting. The moss covered tree and the mushrooms are such a perfect setting for the little critter to be portrayed here, all the elements work beautifully together. I am sure if one would want to stage a photo of a squirrel, one couldn't come up with a setting that perfect, so really got the right moment to shot this.
have a great weekend

This fuzzy little guy really is as cute as a button (as my mum used to say) and a beautiful capture of him. Alone, he would make a beautiful capture but your inclusion of the mushrooms is genius. They have perfect shape and look so healthy, that this could be a scene from a Disney movie. Except of course that it is not animated! A veRy beautiful image of the natural world. And a red squirrel too, the ones we are always happy to see.
All the best

I am at a loss to understand why this lovely, lovely shot has thus far received such little acclaim.
Everything about it is so appealing, the squirrel is perfectly placed in the frame and is pin sharp throughout, all in a gorgeous light.
The fungi are also nicely clear adding their own interest to a fine Natural history shot.
A delightful photograph.
Best regards Les.

Out of your two red squirrel photo's I do like this one the best especially with the super mushrooms, which I read with interest the thread from Malgo. The light catches him just right, wonderful colours. They do look much more attractive than the grey one and so pleased to see they are increasing in various locations through out Britain, we have some in Thetford forest but I have never see one like Ann.
Trust you are well and enjoying the winter up their.

What a splendid close-up on this charming fellow with his beautiful red fur that you have captured in such fine detail. Ideally framed and with superb clarity. Nature photography at its best.
I am not at all offended by your workshop, in fact I think it is a great improvement on the original. It is always good to learn from others. Learning new ideas and techniques and techniques is one of the best things about TE. Thanks for sharing yours.

Another super wildlife picture. The green moss is beautifully lit as is the squirrel. The detail on the squirrels fur is exquisite. I like the whole composition very much.
A skilful picture and well done for walking into the forest to get this.
Kind Regards, Ann

Ciao caro Giovanni
"Say hello to my little friend" - Scarface.
What a cutie, I think you've made a good buddy there. And I part5icularly like the amazing detail you've captured in his coat, the moss and of course that fascinating fungi collection. Beautiful rich colours and play of with the shallow depth of field. I really like the catchlights in our little fella's eyes too. Lovely shot.

Hiw nice to see you getting into the squirrel business. This is a lovely photo that not only shows the very cute little animal in a perfect position but also includes a very nice environment. I suppose the squirrel would have loved to exchange the fungi for a collection of nuts. The light brown and dark green tones go perfectly well together. The perfect light and sharpness also makes this a joy to watch.

Ah... , That's really a beautiful shot, John. I don't remember that I have seen a real red ones, I have several grey ones in the garden. People say that the red ones are very shy, let along to take photos of them. It wouldn't be easy...I like the image with natural background, the mushrooms look beautiful and the colour balances the whole picture against the green background. It is definitely a winner! The qualities are all here.
