Dunollie Castle, Oban, Scotland Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is Dunollie castle, just on the north side of the harbor in Oban, Scotland. Oban is famous for it's Scotch whisky.

The castle sets on the site of a 7th century fort. This structure was built in the 15th century by the MacDougall clan.

I got this picture late one afternoon when I was returning from a day trip to the isles of Staffa and Iona. I arrived back at the harbor right at the "golden hour". And how golden it was. Perhaps it's the high lattitude of Scotland, but the golden orange light that afternoon was the kind of rare and beautiful sun that nearly brings tears to a photographer's eyes.

Beautiful colors. This place must be a heaven for photography I would think. I really like your compo, but the thing that spiols this great picture is the tilt. As a pro photog I would think you would have picked up on it and fixed it in PS (it takes but a few seconds). If not for the tilt this would have been a perfect image.

Great shot Todd, the rich colours are wonderful and the way the sunlight hits the castle and it's surroundings is majestic. You were also blessed that day with an interesting sky! Have been to Scotland once and would love to go again. Very well taken. Great mood and composition. Regards, Vicky

Maybe a tiny levelled, but this is a fantastic pictue full of the "golden" light as you say and that's what I see here. Wonderful, also with the clouds around it, great shot, Todd !
