Photographer’s Note
A short series of pictures in tribute to Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2), which after almost 40 years service at sea has been recently retired to become a luxury hotel in Dubai.
All pictures were taken on slide film and have been converted to digital using Photoshop and NeatImage. The pictures were taken at a time I was working as an Internal Auditor for the company that then owned Cunard Line. I used to visit the company's ships, including QE2, on business from time to time.
This picture shows her literally about to hit the quayside in Gibraltar on an unscheduled stop during her 1984 World Cruise. Some damage was done to the bulbous bow and at her next stop in Lisbon, I was told it would have to be filled with concrete.
Wikipedea has an interesting article on the history of the ship, which was built for the Cunard Line at the John Brown Shipyard in Clydebank, Scotland. The article can be accessed here.

Bonjour Stephen,
Superbe image, d'une très bonne qualité malgré la numérisation. Un beau travail photographique et technique. Félicitations pour ta carrière et la chance d'avoir pu ainsi visiter les plus beaux bateaux.
Bonne journée

Hello Stephen,
a bright, colourful, well composed scene taken from a well chosen viewpoint, very good conversion from slide as well. Beautiful blue tones in this picture with great depth of field. The eye can see so far in the distance. Very interesting note. What else to say "God save the QE2, too"!.
All the best.
Stella
