Island in the Sun Photo

Photographer’s Note

This could probably be almost anywhere, but maybe there's something about it which looks vaguely tropical. Anyway, I quite liked the effect produced by the camera's auto stopdown to cope with this into-the-sun shot in the late afternoon.

The British Virgin Islands is a very strange place, where most of the local population have become quite rich on off-shore financial sevices. The very high wages suck in well qualified expats from the surrounding island states to provide a high quality of all kinds of services. Wild chickens roam the streets, since nobody can be bothered to catch and pluck them anymore. More on this theme another time.

I was between digital cameras at the time, so I borrowed my wife's for the trip.

The light is beautiful and is really well managed here.
The composition is also excellent.
I just wonder what is this thing in the foreground.

Very atmospheric picture, the light is beautiful, I think you made good use of the stopdown. Very well captured.
BTW, I could imagine these islands on the West coast of Ireland too.

Ha, fooled me! The thumb said UK, and I thought, "Really?"

This really is nice light and the silhouettes are good. Your viewpoint would have been better if there was any way to avoid that post and wire.

It's a very dramatic photo, I like the way the sun gets through the clouds, also great colors in the sky. Did you do any PP, Richard its great!

Beautiful sky and light make this a very effective shot. Shame the post and wire are quite so central but sometimes things like this can't be avoided without risking life and limb. Anyway it's a lovely shot.

I love the hidden sun and the clouds too, The reflections of the sun is great, I like it alot, well done, very nice dark foreground too

Nice composition, but it could be even better in my opinion by croping out all the left part, just after the island and the angle of the foreground.

On découvre souvent sur TE des photos qui sont sur le site depuis un petit temps. C'est le cas ce soir avec ta photo.
Je la trouve vraiment très belle.
Un superbe rendu de lumière des nuages vers la mer.
J'aime ces tons dégradé de gris, noir et blanc.
