Photographer’s Note

The island got its current name from Columbus who thought the shape of the island resembled a reclining woman, so he named it "the Fat Virgin." It later changed hands from the Spanish to the British. Huge rock formations, known as the Baths, seen in this photograph, can found on Virgin Gorda. The island is only 8 and a half square miles. It is a growing "hot spot" for tourists and popular yacht clubbers.
