St Johns Point Lighthouse

Built 1884, under the direction of George Halpin. Originally 62ft. high, raised to 120ft. in 1893. Powered by whale oil, coal gas and from 1981, electricity; now automated.

Decided on a panoramic this time to try and show how harsh the coastline is around the lighthouse. Waited for about 3 hours for some nice light but it didnt match up to the last time i visited this spot.

Thanks for looking :)

Gary

Nicely done, like the comp with the bouy on the left and contrast between rock and grass leading your eye up to the lighthouse.

Pans never seem to get much love on the net - suspect it looks great as a big print though.

Hi Gary, I know this location well now and its nice to see a panoramic shot. I think to appreciate the details, textures and colours a large post would be necessary. I may have placed the buoy to the right of this composition though. Your other shot with this buoy is very effective :) Well done.

Regards Steve..

Hi Gary,

Okay, this is one weird photograph :-).
I really need to take a little longer to experience it. I think it has to do with the light! The dark line on the rocks in the distance is giving a bit strange feel. I do like the combination with the sea still visible in the distance. But yes, you were not so lucky with the light.
What I also think is that perhaps there just is too much to see here! You don't really find a spot to give the eye a bit of rest here.
But thanks for sharing!

Greetings,
Dennis
