Photographer’s Note
Andy Mallon plays Gaelic football for the Pearse ogs in Armagh City, seen here fielding (catching) the ball in his own goal mouth in the Armagh County Final against Crossmaglen Rangers which the Pearse Ogs lost despite his hard work in defence. Crossmaglen being one of the best GAA football sides in Ireland having won the Armagh County Championship every year since 1996 and the All Ireland Club Championship 3 times in that period.
Andy also plays for the Armagh County side which won the 2002 All Ireland(as do a large number of players for both teams involved in this match), for those who don't know much about the game the teams are amateurs and parish based, meaning that all those involved know each other very well and in some cases fathers coming to an end of their football careers can be playing on the same teams as their sons who are starting theirs, with brothers playing on teams quite common. To see the rules go to the GAA home page and follow links, I’ll not post the web address as not sure of the rules concerning outside links but if Google GAA can find it quite easily.
The Photo shows some of the action that goes on in a game and unlike soccer the ball can be handled and scores are given for both goals and points (point is where ball goes between the uprights, which are similar to those in rugby or american football)a goal being equal to 3 points. GAA being the most followed sport in Ireland it is worth going to a match if you visit, if only to soak up the atmosphere.

Hello Philip
I like the subject you have brought here on TE, maybe not a lot of people know about the game of Gaelic sports in Ireland which is a brilliant amateur sport, not like these multi-millionaire footballers who only play for their pay-packets. I played it myself as a teenager like my grandfathers and father played it as kids. I still like to follow the All Ireland Finals and have also been lucky to witness a final at Croke Park. Great action shot also, well done for posting, regards Jim
