Carrickfergus Castle is probably the best preserved medieval castle in Ireland. It was also the castle that was garrisoned for the longest period of time and was only handed over to civilian control in 1928.Built in 1177 by John de Courcy as his principal residence in Ireland after the invasion of Ulster. This castle has seen many battles and has been besieged in turn by Scots,Irish,English and French. The castle now houses historical and other displays which are open to the public.

A beautiful presentation of Carrickfergus, really putting into context the fine waterside location, probably one of the nicest elements to this place. This is my favorite castle among all those I never stopped to visit, and it still infuriates me, as I worked for a spell in a company based not more than 5 minutes drive from the castle. However, rush hour traffic into Belfast and onto Dublin on a Friday evening always prompted me to head for home and not stop for some snaps
I love how you have composed this scene, allowing a beautiful view of the castle and the town, and I particularly like the blue tone to the castle windows which is very pleasant. Not often I get to see the blue reflection of glass in castle windows, most of the ones I visit are far too ruined. Beautiful colors throughout too.
Cheers as always

Hello Arthur - A striking shot here with the blue sky and sea providing a good contrasting backdrop to the fine-looking castle. The details in the old walls are quite exceptional and I like the fact that you present it in situ, as it were, with reference to the surrounding landscape. Very nice! Warm regards rosemary

una fortezza che incuteva sicuramente il terrore, sembra ancora invalicabile.
Bello il blu del mare e del cielo, mettono in risalto tutta la costruzione e colorano anvhe i vetri della stessa intensità.

Superb composition with the image of this mighty castle in the foreground, his warrior image is softened by the presence of blue waters that reach the walls, the population in the background is a nice complement to the image.
Very good image quality, sharpness is also great.
Very good job. I love it.
Enjoy a happy day.
All the best.

a very attractive picture well accompanied by your interesting note. The castle looks so quiet and peaceful, it's fascinating to think that it's been the setting of so many battles through the centuries. I appreciate very much the perspective and the sharpness of your presentation as well as the interesting context in which you've placed it. The textures come through in a striking way, the light and the colours are very delightful. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

Good morning Arthur,
The 12th century castle built on the seafront probably to defend the town in old days. Now it stand in good contrast to the modern dwelings on the far side on the bay.
Nice POV taken, superb clarity as every old brick shown well over the impressive fortifications.

I always think, 'If castles could talk, what a story they could tell!'
This castle has certainly had a chequered history!
The view from the waterfront adds a special charm and I like how the colour is reflected in the windows.
The rusty colours in the f/g help to move the viewer through the frame, as they link with rusts to the left and the right of the castle.
Lovely sharp details of the castle will certainly enthuse others to make the trip to see this fine, historic building.
Have a lovely day,

From the photo, it looks like a very compact castle, yet it still manages to be majestic looking. Good POV, nice contrast between shaded and lighted areas, and between historic and modern buildings.

Castles and more castles! i can never get tired of such subjects.
the fact that its still open to the public, and holding displays really goes to show how well preserved it is, amazing considering its age.
I bet there were no telephone or electricity wires back then when it was built! haha we can see them now way off into the bg.
excellent light and crispness, fine shot of this beauty
