Photographer's Note

During my visit to the Glens of Antrim at the weekend I came across this mural on the wall of house in the village of Cushendall. The mural is commemorating 100 years of the local hurling club Ruairi Ogs founded in 1906. Hurling is an ancient Irish game played with a ball roughly the same size as a tennis ball called a sliotar and a hurley stick (caman) made from ash wood cut from near the base of the tree and usually made by local craftsmen. The game of hurling is said to be the fastest team game on grass.
