Photographer’s Note

A focus on Victoria Square glass dome. Victoria Square is a commercial, residential and leisure development in Belfast. Its construction began in april 2004 and over 3,000 people where involved in the construction phase. It was opened in march 2008. The shopping centre has close to 100 stores. It added to Belfast city's centre shopping offer by nearly a third. It also has leisure units (cinema, restaurants, bars, ...) and about 100 apartments. It has 4 floors and a public square covered by a massive glass dome measurin 35 meters in diameter. A large section of the roof is covered in sedum, a plant that soaks up rainwater allowing it to evaporate naturally over time rather than overload draining systems. Victoria Square is a symbol of architectural effervescence in Belfast for a few years, in particular on Laganside, a neighbourhood currently in restoration that hosts many great architectural projects.
