[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have already posted one shot of this building. This photograph has been taken from a slightly different angle.

My main reason for posting another picture, is that I wanted to try converting from RAW using FastStone Image Viewer[freeware]. Andrew [macondo] recently drew my attention to this possibility, which previously I had been unaware of.

FastStone is a very useful way of organising ones photographs - rather like Picasa, but you can do more PP with it. There is now an updated version - 3.5 - of FastStone which is even better.

The RAW conversion is very quick and simple - you don't seem to be able to vary any of the conversion parameters though. This image was converted to TIFF, then PPed in PTLens [to correct wide angle lens distortion and perspective] and PS 7, converted to JPEG, and finally framed and had text added in FastStone.

Well done fixing the distortion here. I like the how the structure on the right accentuates, it gives an overall balance of brightness.

Hello, Peter.

I remember your last picture of this building very well. This is very good too. In fact, technically I believe it is better although I did like the other picture. There were areas of the sky in the last picture that were a bit "blown out" as they say, but not so in this one which has a wonderful sky.

That is indeed excellent that the new version of (the free) FastStone is better and also has a RAW converter. Perhaps it doesn't matter very much that there is no scope for any editing in it if it converts to TIFF files. Although I've not really tried it to any extent, RawTherapee sounds quite good although you have shown it to be very memory-hungry (at least I presume that is the reason it crashes your computer occasionally).

As Albert says, you have corrected the perspective here very well. It is an interesting building with a strange roof - almost a Mansard roof at the nearest side to the camera.

Hello Peter,
The shadow on the street and white wall cast by the trees makes an interesting effect, and a family wheeling a baby carriage on the corner put life into this photo.
I like there is no white fringe in surroundings of the tree branches.

I like this one better than your previous photo, there are less of traffic noise in this! The composition also feels more harmonic. Now IŽll upgrade my FastStone!
