After the St Jude storm last Monday we finally had an almost dry day on Tuesday with bright sunshine, a comparative rarity this windy and wet autumn in southern England. Up on the South Downs near the village of Steyning in West Sussex, winter crops are already sprouting in the fields and that is probably due to the amount of rain and mild conditions we have experienced in recent months.

An image full of atmosphere. Excellent light management. The silhouetted tree dominating the top half of the image makes a great contrast with the sun-kissed crops below. Thoughtful photography beautifully presented.

Does not look like a winter shot! I like the radiating rays of light coming from the center of the tree trunk and the vivid colors.

Ciao e buon fine settimana

like you we did have a couple of dry days earlier in the week, today is back to cloud and rain...
The sun`s rays emanating from the tree are really nicely exposed and shown without a hint of flare, well done.
Have a great week end

charming and with quite romantic mood about it. I am not the biggest fan of symmetric compositions, but in some cases they seem to be just right. Very lovely light and well managed colors.
Thanks for sharing

Ces rayons lumineux qui semblent irradier de l'arbre créent un très bel effet.

Nicely managed shot here Brian. I love the rays of sun radiating behind the tree and the delicate shadow falling across the fresh winter crop. Such a positive and promising atmosphere after the storm. A beautiful image. Warm regards Rosemary

molto bella, la luce è fantastica e l'esposizione è ottima.
Belli i tre livelli di colore con la silhouette dell'albero a riempire la scena.

Hope the storm wasn't too severe. Lovely backlight here with the tree in th fg making a good natural filter to avoid the worst of the sun's glare and potential oe. Good color and sharpness. The yellow green colour of the fg leaves withe the translucence is nice. Tfs!

This looks like it should be on the front of a science fiction book. There is a really eerie vibe to it, with the play of light and shadow. I like how you've used the tree to shield the lens from the harshest of the sun and the strong contrast works so well.
Thanks for sharing, have a beautiful weekend

so simple and yet breath-taking. Beautiful lone tree well selected, I like very much the effect of the sun rays so well pronounced around the tree, how did you do that? Great green foreground too, we can see the back light through the leaves.

Not an easy thing to get right shooting against the low light in this way. You have pulled it off well with enough shadow detail in the FG too. Well done.
macjake (45588) 2013-11-04 16:07
for some reason this scene is reminding me of some hollywood movie....hmm...
it certainly could belong in a movie, it just has that look and pleasing feel to it.
strong contrasts in the top and bottom areas in regards to the light - who would have thought the overexposed area would be so vital! works well as a transition between the top and bottom.
very sweet indeed.
npecanhuk (56372) 2013-11-04 17:32
