The estuary of the River Adur in Shoreham-by-sea, West Sussex is an extensive tidal flood plain that is a fascinating mixture of marsh areas and golden mud flats that are carved and smoothed by the comings and goings of the sea in the English Channel. Many bridges span the river and this one carries the main south coastal road - bathed in golden light by the setting sun.

A very special atmosphere of this image appears.
I love this color gradient, the pov. A compo different from what you usually presents.

The graduated filter is well chosen accentuating the mood to great effect. Beautifully composed including judicious use of the square framing. Very atmospheric with that lovely light.

the lovely warm glow of the sun on the stone bridge and the wet mud is what immediately strikes the viewer, especially the little golden bit on the underside of the bridge. excellent detail and sharpness. well composed with the grass banks and river leading the eye towards the bridge.

Hello Brian ,
Mud can be photogenic ! Splendid capture , especially for the golden light , but the composition is exellent , too , with the superb old stoned bridge as an intersting element .

Hello Brian, the quality of the evening light brings the scene to life, particularly on the brickwork of the Bridge and the mud beyond.

As soon as I saw your title, I was immediately reminded of those two wonderful entertainers, Michael Flanders and Donald Swan, from the days of my youth: of course, their Hippopotamus Song!
Few people other than yourself, Brian, could possibly make mud look attractive, but you have here! The composition is excellent and I love the warm afternoon sunlight illuminating the bridge. The light on the mud, too, is fabulous but perhaps for me the loveliest thing is the almost golden sky.
Fabulous colours and contrasts and, of course, exquisite sharpness.

Mud is not an usually attractive thing, but in your picture everything looks interesting and nice, although I see some details here and there that are not very pleasant for the eyes!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, chosen pov and composition are all excellent!
TFS - congrats,

No Grecian blues in sight, and still this has to be one of yours !
Well seen, and well captured ( how I hate that term, but it expresses the essence of the job !).
You have turned the mundane into art, and from a puddle of mud, thats no mean feat !
( I stumbled across a theme recently, 'A walk along the Adur', or some such, have you seen it ? )

Wow Brian, The light here is fantastic and makes this scene glow, well spotted, a muddy picture turned in to a masterpiece, Cheers Iain.

The evening light is soft and gentle on the mud giving beautiful image. There are some lovely tones picked up in the bricks of the bridge. I would imagine that at other times of the day this scene would look more ordinary. Very nice work.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hello Brian - I am viewing this on a small laptop and from what i can see this is a beautiful winter landscape shot under very good light. The layers of interest with sun reflecting off the mud leading to and under the bridge are so beautiful. I look forward to revisiting this one when I get home. Warm regards rosemary

As suggested by the title, the lightning is very nice bringing a warm mood. The composition is this square frame is well balanced, using the bridge, the river and the water-mud hole in foreground.
