In the North part of the churchyard of St. Nicolas' Church at Shoreham-by-sea, West Sussex, England is the grave of a Russian Princess. It is a neat sculptured figure in a niche of blue tessellated tiles. Lydia Yavorska was the Princess Bariatinsky who married an Englishman and died on the 3rd September 1921 after a career as an actress. An inscription states that she was ‘the youngest of the four great actresses of her generation: noble heart, lofty mind, burning soul, she devoted her life and gifts to the worship of beauty and the cause of freedom.’

A well framed composition of this beautifully decorated tombstone. The presence of the bush on the left could be quite annoying but I do not find it so at all. It provides depth fro the image and and some interesting tonal contrast. Lighting and detail are both very good.

Very nicely captured, with a wonderful light, and a deft composition - the inclusion of the slightly blurred foliage really adds something to this: depth, and a feeling of approaching the gravestone.
Very interesting note, too. Well done.

Bonjour, cher Brian,
Une pierre tombale digne d'une princesse. Force est de reconnaître que ce témoignage est fort bien réalisé et ne manque pas d'originalité.
Très belle mise en image.
