The old bandstand/shelter on the beach in the town of Lancing in West Sussex, England. Recently re-painted to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of WWI with bright red poppies gracing the pillars.

We have both posted photographs that feature poppies today and both make mention of WW1. A similar theme but vastly different shots! Your poppies look crisp and stylish as they adorn the old bandstand... a modern twist to a traditional symbol. A well realised and fascinating image.

An interesting concept to paint poppies on the bandstand to commemorate the start of the First World War. I like the composition and the strong graphical lines, something accentuated by the close framing and the vivid colours. Fine technical presentation. I get the impression, though I may be wrong, that the French are not making as much fuss over this centenary as the British.

I get the feeling that the art director had you in mind when the bandstand was decorated. An eye-catching image close-cropped to perfection.

Reading the title to the picture, I was expecting some real poppies by the sea, but this is equally attractive and the strong colors suits this ancient shelter well. It lets it appear less massive. Great light on the sea beyond by the way.
have a great sunday

True eyecatcher! Very nice idea of a photo under this colorful shelter! I like it very much because of poppies - my favorite flowers

Beau contraste entre rouge et bleu. Belle initiative de peindre ces coquelicots en souvenir de cette affreuse guerre qui devait être "la der des der" selon l'expression française pour motiver les poilus!

Hello Brian, Rosemary showed recently the poppies on the fields, here we have them on the pillars. But again, related to the war memories. Splendid colours as always.

The red flowers give this an east Asian look and feel. Hong Kong or Japan perhaps? Nice warm cold colour contrasts between the red and blue sea and sky with good sharpness and density. Excellent shadow detail & the strip of green grass at the bottom adds interest. Tfs!

The color combination in this photo is very attractive. It depicts a very cheerful place. I like the frames within the frame, each showing a slice of beautiful seascape.
